An international city in the true sense of the word, Lugano is right on the border of Switzerland and Italy. It is famous for its stunning location, between the mountains and the Lago Lugano, rich cultural heritage and delicious cuisine. The city hosts many festivals throughout the year, including the “Luganomusica” festival every summer. MASI (the Museum of Art of Italian Switzerland) (20 minutes walk) hosts regular contemporary art exhibitions.

A day trip to Lago Lugano is a must, as is a walk along Lugano’s famous waterfront, with breathtaking views over the lake. Or take a stroll to Piazza della Riforma, the city’s main square and home to many fine restaurants and bars. If you are inspired to cook, then the farmers market (Tuesday and Friday) in Via Carducci (20 minutes walk) is the best place to find the finest local ingredients.
