Welcome to The Cowboy Cottage, a century-old, creekside hideaway nestled in historic Box Canyon. Surrounded by the landscapes where classic Westerns were filmed, this rustic retreat blends Old California charm with thoughtful updates. Here, nature isn’t just outside your window; it feels like part of the home itself. With Western-inspired touches, inviting gathering spaces, and nature just outside the door, The Cowboy Cottage offers a stay rich in history, character, and natural beauty.
The Cowboy Cottage is a historic home offering an elevated yet authentic Old West experience. Built in harmony with the landscape, the home incorporates the canyon’s natural rock formations into its very structure. While the cottage is meticulously cleaned before every stay, its close connection to nature means you may occasionally encounter a spider web or insect. The creek is seasonal, coming to life during periods of rain and often remaining dry during warmer months. When the rains arrive, you’ll be lulled to sleep by a chorus of frogs. The canyon changes with the seasons, making every stay a little different. If you’re drawn to history, character, and the charm of a true canyon hideaway, we think you’ll love it.

ACCESS
Access is via a shared dirt road and parking area used by a small number of neighboring homes. The unpaved road may result in a light layer of dust on your vehicle, shoes, or rolling luggage.
NEIGHBORING HOMES
The cottage enjoys a peaceful canyon setting with a sense of privacy created by the mature trees and the natural landscape. Across a tree-lined creek sits the only neighboring home partially visible from the property. On rare occasions, you may see or hear its residents if they’re outdoors. While arriving or departing, you may encounter a neighbor or one or two friendly neighborhood dogs along the shared access road outside the property’s gate. If you’re uncomfortable around dogs or are traveling with a dog that isn’t friendly with other dogs, please keep this in mind when booking.
NATURE’S TOUCH
During periods of heavy rain, you may notice minor moisture on a portion of the interior stone wall above the fireplace. Like many older homes, the main living area may occasionally have the nostalgic scent of an old cabin. These are natural characteristics of the home’s original stone construction and not a reflection of its cleanliness.
WILDLIFE
Wildlife may include songbirds, hawks, owls, lizards, frogs, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, snakes, coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, and more. Please enjoy wildlife from a respectful distance, and never leave pets or small children unattended outdoors.
Please keep doors closed at all times to help prevent insects and wildlife from entering the cottage.
FIRE SAFETY
The Cowboy Cottage is located in a high fire-risk area.
• No smoking, vaping, candles, incense, fireworks, or open flames anywhere on the property.
• The indoor stone fireplaces, antique cast-iron stove, and outdoor stove in the back courtyard are decorative only.
• Do not use the propane fire pit during high winds. Turn off the propane and replace the cover after each use.
• Fire extinguisher: Located under the kitchen sink.
• During periods of extreme fire danger, the utility company may temporarily shut off power as part of a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS). These outages are beyond our control.
PETS
Dogs are welcome with prior approval.
• A non-refundable pet fee of $35 per dog, per night applies (maximum two dogs). Please disclose all pets before booking.
• Dogs are not permitted on furniture, beds, or the outdoor daybed.
• Please clean up after your pet and do not leave dogs unattended.
• Excessive cleaning, pet-related damage, or undisclosed pets may result in additional charges.
SEPTIC SYSTEM & WELL WATER
• Please flush only human waste and toilet paper.
• The entry-level bathroom features an electric toilet. It functions like a standard toilet, but the pump is louder when flushed. This is normal.
• The home is supplied by a local well. On rare occasions, you may notice a slight sulfur smell when turning on the water. This is a natural characteristic of well water and may last anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.
VISITORS, PARTIES & GATHERINGS
Only registered guests listed on the reservation are permitted on the property. A maximum of five guests may be on the property at any time.
Visitors, parties, gatherings, events, and unauthorized guests are not permitted. Violations may result in additional charges or immediate termination of your reservation without refund.
