Smithy Cottage 17th century converted barn

One of six 17th century stone built barns converted to comfortable and well equipped cottages in an Area of Outstanding Natural Landscape and adjacent to the SW Coastal Path. Set around a courtyard and with ample parking and a child's outdoor play area and an information room with brochures, games, books and dvds etc. A laundry with drying facilities is provided. Beds are made for your arrival.

The National Trust’s extensive cliff top is just across the quiet lane.. a step away with magnificent views of Whitsand Bay and the entrance to Looe Harbour. Just sit on the cliff and relax or have a barbeque in the evening or stroll to Millendreath Beach which is 300 meters away with its cafe, toilets and water sports equipment hire.

Follow the scenic South West Coastal Path for 1 ½ miles to the ancient fishing town of Looe. On coastal walks you will find plenty of flora and fauna to interest you from wild flowers to birds of prey and occasionally a deer. Looe is still a thriving fishing port with a busy fish market where you can watch the auctions. Buy a fresh mackerel or catch your own from the many little fishing boats you can hire. Whatever you choose a fresh mackerel makes a tasty meal! The narrow streets of Looe are a delight to wander and browse. Pick up an oggy (a traditional Cornish pasty) for that tasty snack lunch!! Public beaches are available in Looe or at Seaton.

The virtual traffic free ancient smugglers fishing village of Polperro is only a short drive away. Many attractions nearby include the Eden Project and the National Marine Aquarium.

For those who like gardens then visit the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project where are dramatic domed gardens the size of 24 football pitches. Eden continues to expand its facilities and wonders which people find fascinating . The giant domes house plants from different temporal zones of the world. The National Trust historical houses include Lanhydrock, Cotehele and Mount Edgcombe (Lady Astor’s old home) and all are set in superb surroundings. Other attractions including the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Daphne du Maurier's Jamaica Inn and Morwhelan Quay.

Fishing, riding, walking are all available nearby. Golf at Looe Golf Club is 2 miles and The St Mellion Golf and Country Club is 20 minutes away. The walk from Looe to Polperro is a must.

Plymouth is only 14 miles away along the old Cornish highway. Visit the Barbican with the Mayflower Steps where the pilgrim fathers left for America or the National Marine Aquarium. The Hoe with Smeaton’s Tower (an old Eddystone Lighthouse) and look out over the sound like Sir Francis Drake when he was playing bowls!

Summercourt offers a relaxing environment with the availability of local places of interest and attractions so you can enjoy a peaceful and happy holiday.

given false information

We stayed at the Summercourt Cottages (Smithys) on the 15th of August for 1 week. We came home on the 19th which is 3 nights earlrier than we should have. This is becasue there was numerous things wrong with the cottage we stayed at as well as the location. The cottage was damp and foisty downstairs which was where we were sleeping which lead to our clothes and bedding to be damp and wet. The tiles in the shower were covered with black mould and my daughters room was filled with woodlice which we had to get rid of as much as we could. The furniture such as the couches were very uncomfortable, low to the ground and weren't suited for 3 people. We payed extra for a COVID-19 cleaning bill and clearly it had not been done. There was a thick load of dust upon the furnurture and stair rail and cob webs were prominent all around the cottage. We were told the location to the nearest pub was a 10 minute walk however, we were not informed that we had to climb down a CLIFF to get to the pub which is also where the beach is. We are all for seclusion however, this was far too secluded as the nearest place was atleast 15 minutes drive which would have took longer to walk due to the roads. We have travelled down Devon and Cornwall many times and spent most in cottages and lodges and this would be by far the worst cottage we have stayed in and the first time we have shortened our holiday because of how disgusted we were in the place.

Smithy Cottage

Pleasant "upside down" cottage with all the facilities you need. Sheltered, quiet area and convenient car parking. Nice country and sea views and walks close by. Good recommendations for local hostelries and restaurants across a wide range. Get used to narrow lanes for driving, but that's Cornwall!

Warm, comfortable, lovely situation

Lovely and quiet with wonderful views across the sea from the picnic area opposite. The Smithy just what we wanted and very comfortable for our needs. I'd happily go back. The owners were on site if there were any problems. They were very welcoming and happy to help out.

Knusse cottage in een mooie omgeving

Super genoten van ons verblijf! Hoewel in begin een beetje klam. Met openen van ramen gaat dat beter! Miste hier en daar wat haakjes, planken. Een tweede dienblad zou handig zijn! De omgeving is prachtig! Strand is goed te bereiken. In tien minuten! Terugweg is een goede klim.
