Relax and unwind at the Suite Shed, nestled in a peaceful old orchard garden in Launceston. This charming replica Tasmanian shed has been transformed into a warm, self-contained guest suite with a wheelchair-accessible bathroom and kitchenette.

The space

Suite Shed is a conversion of traditional sleep outs and a bathroom behind a Californian Bungalow into a warm, self-contained guest suite for up to 4 people. A rustic urban cabin in an old orchard garden yet close to the Launceston city centre. There is a separate bedroom and a corner queen-sized daybed that you can close off from the living room for sleeping.

The beautiful tactile texture of Tasmanian Oak timber boards have been exposed inside. A new roof and walls have been added to the outside so it is fully insulated. With double glazed timber windows, it retains the warmth of Launceston’s sunny days in Winter. There is heat pump airconditioning in the living room and bed alcove, a radiant heated panel in the bedroom and a heated towel rail in the bathroom to keep you cosy.

Suite Shed is proudly accredited by the Accessible Tourism Accreditation Program (ATAP).

Designed for low vision and accessibility, it is an inclusive space with a wheelchair accessible bathroom & kitchenette.

If you have low vision, there are handrails with movement sensor lights to help you navigate, plus a talking microwave and induction cook top.

You can retreat from the world in a sensory egg chair, or relax on your own deck under the apricot tree.

Once you feel revived & ready to explore, you are close to Heritage Forest Park, North Esk River, UTAS Stadium, QVMAG museum, Harvest Market, Launceston city centre & Cataract Gorge.

You may also meet the two resident Rough Collies, Cienna and her daughter Minnie. Friendly and affectionate, they enjoy meeting guests but are equally happy to stay with us if you prefer a quieter stay.

Animals around the property

Please do not book if you have allergies to dogs or animal fur. There are two long-haired Rough Collies who shed generously. While they do not share your accommodation, some fur may occasionally find its way into outdoor areas.

As the Suite Shed is set within a garden, you may also spot visiting possums, neighbouring cats and the occasional beneficial insect enjoying the space alongside you.

We believe everyone deserves a seamless getaway. That is why Suite Shed is fully ATAP (Accessible Tourism Accreditation Program) accredited. Independently assessed and verified by people with lived experience of disability, you can relax and book your stay knowing our space is thoughtfully equipped to meet your needs.

To maintain the rustic “shed” feel while providing a practical non-slip surface for wheelchair and ambulant guests, the concrete floor is intentionally left unsealed. It may feel slightly sandy underfoot and can mark easily, but it is cleaned thoroughly and designed to feel relaxed rather than polished.

The LED strip lighting beneath the handrails operates on motion sensors to assist guests with low vision navigating at night. If preferred, these lights can also be switched off manually.


Comfort

The Suite Shed has been carefully insulated with a new roof over the original structure, insulated external wall layers and double-glazed windows to keep the space warm and comfortable year-round.

As temperatures change, the insulated metal roof may occasionally make gentle expansion and contraction sounds. Many guests barely notice it, but we like to mention it for transparency.
