Picture Seen on our opening page are not up-to-date. They were taken before we decided to put our home on Verbo and the house is still in construction close to being done. Better pictures will be shown soon. What do you get when you combine a130 year old log cabin with a 125 year old log barn? A modern day masterpiece of sustainable design and comfort that is also a time machine to the past. From the huge trees cut down with axes and hand hewed into logs and beams to the antique dressers converted into vanities there is history in every room. For example the reclaimed 3x12 in the stairs came from a bar/strip club in Eveleth, and the old wood for the siding, custom made doors and trim were salvaged from several barns and the laminated beams are from a bank in Austin, MN.
The most of the stone for the basement fireplace and the patio was left over from the earth home I built next door 30 years ago and the fire door to the garage came from a school in Mpls.
We have a shared access to Lake Washington which is the areas most popular lakes with excellent fishing and Westwood Marina for it's dining and events. Mankato and St. Peter and about 10 minutes away for all your shopping needs and for those into hunting Kasota has a shooting range for archery and firearms including a place where you can shoot a machine gun and drive a tank over a car. Not bad for a town of only 710 people!
There will be a brochure in the home that explains the entire building process, the materials that were chosen and why. If you want to see the entire build you can see it on YouTube @barnsandlogcabins where I tried to tag them with Sophus house
