Beatiful Cabin in Stunning Location

Could not have wished for more. Ortnevik is one jaw dropping view after another and the cabin is beautiful in the perfect location. We stayed 5 nights and walked the routes from the cabin each day and Eldar kindly shared use of his boat and fishing equipment. Can't wait to visit Norway again.

Magical stay deep in the heart of Norway

This cabin was very comfortable while giving our family an off the grid feel. An amazing view of the fjords and the night sky made us feel emerged in nature, while we stayed warm by the indoor fireplace. The full kitchen was great for cooking. Just remember to bring groceries, as you won’t want to leave this paradise to get supplies. Hiking trails around the cabin were awesome! Loved our stay!

Large comfortable cabin with a wonderful view of farmland and the fjord

We enjoyed the spacious cabin. It was warm and had a very functional kitchen and bathroom. It was great to eat looking out on the farm and beyond to the fjord and mountains. Good hiking opportunities from the cabin. Small village store had needed items. The ferry is right in the village, though a limited schedule to be aware of. Overall we had a great time during the stay.

Fantastic place!!!

We spent a week in the big cabin and we loved it! The cabin itself is amazing, it has got everything you need, outside the place is like in paradise with waterfalls, wild animals, surrounded with mountains. Car is not must but i would recommend it. We would definitely go back again.

Cosy cabin in beautiful nature

The big cabin has a stunning view to the mountains and fjords, surrounded by beautiful nature. Thanks to the glass front it doesn't matter which weather it is, it's always cosy instead - especially with the fire place. Although the cabin can fit easily 10 people, it is also really cosy for 2 people. The cabin, especially the kitchen, has everything you wish for. You don't even need a car, the ferry from Bergen takes you here - and the hikes around the area as well as the ferry ride to Vik is beautiful. We really enjoyed the time at this peaceful place - tusen takk

Family 3 nighy stay

We had an amazing time staying in the big cabin. We have two children aged 5 and 7 who loved sleeping in the attic beds and exploring the are! The cabin was lovely and cosy with amazing balcony and open plan kitchen and living space to enjoy the stunning views. The website does not do it justice. If you are looking for accommodation for peacefulness, adventure ( Hiking ( kid friendly), rowing boats, den building, wood carving etc ) then this is the location for you. The hosts was very friendly and offered lots of advice on the local area. We will return for sure. Thank you for an amazing 3 nights.

Amazing location, comfortable cabin with beautiful view of fjord

What a beautiful valley on the fjord! The cabin has a fantastic view out over Ortnevik to the Sognefjord. It really is stunning. We went on a couple of short hikes around the valley and totally enjoyed them. The cabin itself is comfortable with all the facilities you will need. There is a small store in Ortnevik where you can get groceries but be aware that it has limited opening hours so check with the host. I should also mention that the host was very responsive to my queries, even though he was away at the time of our visit. His mother dropped in to make sure we were settling in, which was very nice. So, all in all, a wonderful stay!

Out of a fairytale

This was our first stop on our three week trip to Norway and we could not have asked for a more perfect introduction. The Big Cabin was the most cozy and charming cabin we have ever seen! It was comfortable and well equipped. Our kids were especially in love with the sleeping loft and the unique stairs. The setting was magical and we filled our days hiking, cycling and fishing right from the cabin. Our host was wonderful and even helped supply us with some basic food staples as we arrived close to midnight on Saturday and the shop in town is closed on Sunday. We were not prepared, but Eldar took care of us! We would love to return and hope to stay longer next time!

Delightful

This is a lovely spot.  The cabin is set into the side of a ridge with forest at the back.  The front wall of windows and deck look out about a kilometer, over fields and the village, to the Sognefjord.  During our stay with our teenaged granddaughter in early June, the wildflowers were everywhere, and the forest was  a misty J.R.R. Tolkien landscape of thick moss, crags, rocks, crevices and rivulets.  Great hiking out the door in every direction, and, even on a drizzly day, the anticipation of a cozy return.  The heated floors are delightful.  Much thought went into the cabin's layout, with touches including carvings, a gnarly stump supporting the kitchen counter, and stairs to the loft hewn out of a single log.Ortnevik is off the beaten path, at the end of a narrow road from Bjordal to the west.  That is an appealing reason to visit this part of Hoyanger.  But, the visitor should realize that ferries are more limited on the weekend, the small local store is often closed, and no nearby cafes.  So, a good idea to pick up supplies on the way and double check the ferry schedule.   Our time here was the highlight of our trip to Norway.

A tucked away gem, absolutely marvellous

We stumbled over this place on the internet, and to be honest did not know what to expect. We picked it because the interior looked better than most of the ugly cabins we found elsewhere. Ortnevik is where the road ends, and if you come from Tokyo, it is quite a dramatic change of scenery. The cabin has the most fantastic view one can imagine. It is spacious and well equipped, and the hosts did all they could to ensure our well being. The cabin is great for a large family, 2 couples, or a larger group if some don't mind sleeping under the roof. The nature is completely unspoiled, and there are both good hiking for all levels, as well as fishing nearby. We stocked up in Bergen, but the little local supermarket in Ortnevik, is surprisingly well assorted, with regular supplies from the local ferry boat. We recommed going by, or renting a car, the cottages are situated well above sea level, so if you come by ferry, you will not want to walk down every day. The drive is an experience in itself. Easy to find, there is only one road. Only drawback was the wireless internet, which had poor reception in the large cottage. Either no reception at all, or a very weak one, so do not expect to be connected to work or friends, maybe for the better. We warmly recommend this place, we only staid 3 nights but it felt like an eternity, the world as it once was, perhaps.

Wonderful Brekke!

This was the best holiday we have every had. Heidi and Eldar went over and beyond to make sure our stay was as enjoyable as possible. They were available to provide extra wood for the fire and hot tub (everyday), helped us park the cars in the snow, dropped us into town when it was snowing and advised us on walks around the area. The cabin itself was wonderful. It was warm, cosy and spacious. The kitchen had EVERYTHING you could want in a holiday kitchen and we successfully cooked Christmas dinner for 11 people. It has a DVD, plasma TV and stereo player. There are 2 bedrooms and a big mezzanine area that can sleep many others. The bathroom was clean, warm, with the hot water never running out. There was also a washer/dryer combo machine to wash and dry clothes. There is also free wireless internet for people who have a laptop/smart phone. The cabin in at the top of the village and has wonderful views into the village, mountains and fjord. You can see the other two cabins but there you also have lots of privacy. There are many walks you can do around the area and even though there was heavy snow around, we did many different walks around the cabins and into the mountains We highly recommend this place to stay. Heidi and Eldar (and Eldar's parents!) were there to assist with anything and were the best holiday rental hosts we have ever had. We stayed in winter but would love to go back in Summer as it seems like it would be a completely different experience and alot warmer! It is a self catering place and we stocked up with a week's worth of food in Bergen before we arrived. We were very surprised at the things that were available in the local shop and in hindsight would have liked to have bought more things from the shop as they were similar in price to the supermarkets in Bergen and as it's the only shop in town, you are supporting the local Ortnevik village. They had all the staples including beer, but for more specialty items, do get them outside Ortnevik. Our only regret was could only stay for a week! If you do decide to go say hi to Heidi and Eldar from the Aussies from Xmas 2009!

Truly memorable holiday

We (couple with 4 year old daughter) arrived after a flight to Bergen and then coach to Oppedal where the cabin owner (Eldar) collected us by car before taking us to the cabin. This is a good option as hiring a car looked expensive and would have been used very little as we intended to relax, have fun and just walk in the local area. Norweigan public transport is very good and reasonably priced so proved a wise move. Booked on seeing pictures of the cabins and reading previous reviews. We had wanted to visit Scandanavia for a while and Norway seemed a good choice as we hoped a February visit would provide snow for how we imagined it 'should' be! We were not disapointed as we had snow throughout our 5 night stay yet the temperature was mild for the time of year at around 0C. We had been expecting it to be far colder so were certainly not cold with the clothes we had brought with us! We stayed in the large log cabin which was very spacious, warm and beautiful. Underfloor heating in all but the two bedrooms was great and the log fire really made the evenings special. Everything we needed was in the kitchen and bathroom and the friendly owners even lent us a laptop and hairdryer for our stay. The view over Sognefjord is magnificient, some days complimented by a blue sky others were striking with snow clouds rolling in. We wandered the nearby area as best we could with a 4 year old! Up a trail into the forest and another to a frozen lake all so tranquil and peaceful. We were lent sledges by the owners for our daughter (well we did have a go too...) which she adored. Walked to the local shop (run by the mother of Eldar who was helpful and friendly) and bought some provisions which were delivered later on in the day to our cabin. The selection was very good, especially considering how small a population lives in Ortnevik. Returned by ferry to Nordeide before taking an express boat to Bergen. Then went by train to Oslo which we highly recommend especially the initial part of the journey as it is very spectacular. Really could not fault anything, even the weather played to plan. The whole stay was truly memorable and we are so glad we visited the special Ortnevik.

Time-out in Hoyanger

After 18 month world-wide pandemic, we needed a break. The Hoyanger nature and community did exactly that for us. The Brekke cabins are about 15-20min walk up the mountainside away from the Fjord. This height provides spectacular views over the Fjord and also into the neighboring valleys. The cabin is beautiful, cozy, equipped with everything you need - even books, games and a wide video selection for rainy days. We loved all the little details in the cabins, like faces and ornaments carved into the wood. The Brekke family is just so friendly and helpful and we felt very welcome. We stayed for 4 weeks and used the cabin as home base for a couple multi-day trips to the glacier for rafting or longer hikes in the national park behind the cabin. Between mushrooms, berries, hiking, swimming, Volleyball at the local beach we loved every minute of our stay - THANK YOU, BREKKE Family!!!

Wunderschöne Tage in Ortnevik
