This place is in such a beautiful area but it is disgusting.. smelly, dirty. The tub doesn’t drain .. there’s no phone in the room to call the desk.. ( wonder why) the person working in the restaurant was also working the front desk.. my guess was she was also the cook and dishwasher. It was not cheap either. Food not good, they claim it’s a 3 star hotel ??? Not even 1 star
Bed and linens clean and bed very comfy but in general room not too clean - it looked like nobody vacuumed the carpet for awhile, tub and sink didn’t drain well and there were some hair in the tub that didn’t belong to us…
Breakfast tasted ok but presentation not very nice and I’m not picky at all.
Some of the staff very nice though.
Also, crazy fire alarm went off and wouldn’t stop for like 10 min just because someone was drying their hair 🙈 (I learned that later).
The staff wasn’t very friendly. Waited for over 20 minutes to find someone to check us in. The breakfast was really bad. Tough overcooked bacon, watery eggs. Really disappointing.
Very run down. Very expensive and in a single bed with a room no bigger than a normal en suite bathroom. Dinner service was very quick and food average.
Needless to say nights sleep was not the best with very old, thin curtains allowing glaring sunlight at the crack of dawn. The en suite you couldn't swing your arm let alone a cat. Breakfast inedible! Not the best business stay ive ever had. Having said that its in a beautiful surrounding!
Reasonably clean and well presented. Appalling bed making!!!! Cannot understand why anyone would think that making the bed on one side is ok.
Staff reasonably helpful but not spontaneously engaging. Got the feeling people were tired, unhappy, uncared for.
The Glendalough Hotel is on the doorstep of one of the most revered and preserved ancient monastic site in all of Ireland nestled in a valley surrounded by tall treed hills/mountains. This is where the revered St. Kevin became an ascetic and later founded this frugal monastic community. Bus loads from all over the world and here at home come to Heritage Restored Place. So having this lovely hotel near is an added boon. Also many vendors sell their wares here and for those who love to walk, run and hike there plenty to tap into. Up the road are two notable lakes; one in particular has a fantastic vista of the bowl shaped valley surrounding the lake. Quite impressive as well a photographer's dream. I found my stay at the hotel comfortable. Enjoyed the staff and their help. If I have a suggestion is for the daily menu during meals could be enhanced. Especially for people who do not eat meat and or have celiac issues. I am aware of both the English and Irish breakfast leans but there are many who frequent that find it too much. Not enough fresh fruits and salads. The evening meal needs more rotation-variety than the same format every day without change. As for drinks, no complaint and loved the beers and ales. Look your in Ireland known for whiskies and Guinness as well other home brews. One other note for lunch or snacks there is a vendor (supplied by the hotel) that offers, in my opinion delicious wraps. Check it out.
