The Koal-Mine-Inn is a very charming, cozy, comfy, and relaxing A-frame chalet with tons of character! Features a huge outdoor deck with a gas gill and outdoor dining furniture, large yard with firepit, high-speed Wi-Fi, smart televisions, 4 portable A/C units (one in each bedroom and one in the living room), main floor washer and dryer, and a great location just a short walk from downtown Frankfort and Betsie Lake. Wonderful family-friendly and dog-friendly home to make lasting memories!
GUEST INTERACTION:
We have a local property manager that lives in the area and is available to answer any questions that you might have and/or address any issues.
NEIGHBORHOOD:
The home is in a great location just a short 5 to 10 minute walk from downtown Frankfort, which features a growing and thriving array of fun restaurants, cafes, shops, a historic movie theater (the Garden Theater), and a microbrewery (Stormcloud). Downtown Frankfort also has a great family-friendly beach on Lake Michigan (the north end of which is dog-friendly) and a very popular pier on which you can walk out to the famous Frankfort Lighthouse. The entire town is very family-friendly and pet-friendly and you see many people taking their dogs for walks along charming Main Street. Frankfort also has a large and very popular farmers market right on Main Street on Saturdays during the summer and fall.
The chalet is also right next door to A&W, which is a very fun, popular, and family-friendly restaurant that is available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. (We particularly recommend the A&W root beer floats in the traditional frosted mugs! ;-)
There are also a number of great attractions in the area, which are less than 30 minutes away! These include the following:
* Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore * Crystal Lake * Point Betsie Lighthouse * Arcadia Bluffs Golf Course * Crystal Mountain Resort (for skiing and golf) * the nearby beach towns of Onekama, Arcadia, Elberta, Beulah, and Empire
Furthermore, the home is just about a 1-hour drive from downtown Traverse City, which is the heart of northern Michigan tourism and features a vast array of dining, shopping, and entertainment options.
GUEST ACCESS:
Guests have access to the entire property, except for an owners' closet, which is locked off.
THE SPACE:
The home has a very cute traditional style with lots of wood, charm, and character!
Home Layout:
The front of the house is at the south end of the property and faces the east end of Main Street in Frankfort. Thus, the large deck is in front of the house. The main entrance to the house is from the sliding glass doors to the deck.
Walking into the front of the house from the large deck, guests enter the living room. The kitchen, dining area, and second bedroom are in the middle of the house on the first floor. At the back (north end) of the house is a large bedroom that has its own private en suite bathroom. It also has its own exterior entrance and a small deck just outside the entrance. Parking for the home is in back of the house near the back bedroom and back deck. (Thus, parking is at the opposite end of the main entrance.)
The second floor of the house is a large loft area that includes additional sleeping space. There are stairs leading up to the loft at both ends of the house. Note that only one of the two entrances to the upstairs loft area has a private door.
Sleeping Space Summary:
* Bedroom #1: First floor bedroom at the back (north) end of the house. Has a queen-size bed, portable A/C unit, private en suite bathroom, television, mini-fridge, microwave, desk with chair, and dresser. Also has its own private entrance from the back of the house. * Bedroom #2: First floor bedroom in the middle of the house. Has a queen-size bed, portable A/C unit, shelves, and a closet. * Bedroom #3: Loft bedroom on the second floor with stairs at each end. Gotta say love the showers best towels ever the ceiling fan in the living room absolutely awesome. I am looking into buying one. The back deck with the grill loved it. Had deer meet us on the side yard absolutely beautiful A&W restaurant in our driveway. Couldn’t have been the best thing ever we all fully enjoyed root beer floats. It was one of our salmon fishing weekends in Frankfurt. Can’t wait to stay at this house for our next weekend fishing trip.

Check-in was easy, good communication with management, lots of room for people and pets, stocked kitchen, lots of bath towels and clean bedding. It was a good location for beaches and visiting many surrounding places, both decks were nice and big with lots of seating and it was nice to have a grill.

This is such a charming property - the pictures don’t do it justice. It is very large and rustic and a nice walk into town. Quiet, with plenty of space for everyone. The kids loved the loft and felt like they were in a treehouse. We loved our stay here.

Nice time
Overall we had a very nice stay at Koal Mine Inn. We had a few maintenance issues that were addressed very quickly by Hannah, the property manager. Being the first guests of the season, I feel that these issues could have been avoided had the property been given a thorough run through before we arrived. We had repair people there two days of our stay, for which we were given a very small reimbursement. We requested Swiffer cleaning pads to be dropped off because my Granddaughter likes to be barefoot and the bottoms of her little feet were black after running around inside. Again, something that could have been avoided with a thorough cleaning before we arrived. The kitchen was very well stocked, only issue there were the dull knives. The beds were very comfortable. The outdoor area is wonderful and we enjoyed the firepit almost every night. Coffee on the huge deck was nice too.

Good Times
The place is indeed fun and charming with lots of character. Just know that the entrance is a little dirt road behind the back parking lot of the A&W, and you won't miss it.

Koal Mine Inn
We just completed a 5 day stay. The location was wonderful. The house itself is quirky but charming. The cleanness was excellent. There was absolutely nothing in the fridge or pantry which was unusual compared to other VRBO stays. The only maintenance problem was a shower curtain rod that wouldn’t sray in place. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay there again

Relaxed stay at the A frame
Stay was relaxed. Property was very comfortable. Our party had both a dog and baby and worked very well for both. There were baby gates and even a high chair. A large back deck had lots of chairs and a regular and kiddie picnic table. We all enjoyed a lot.

Fantastic home and wonderful location
We stayed for four nights with four adults (family). We would love to come back. This is a very comfortable, clean home with plenty of room and all amenities. Communication was seamless. The location is really great because it's on a quiet street but near the beach and sleeping bear Dunes, hiking, a fish/meat smoke shop, grocery store, bike rental near a beautiful 20 mile trail, and many nice restaurants and shops in Frankfort. Highly recommend.
