Host & Stay | The Egerton
Summary: The Egerton is an extravagant two bedroom apartment set within the 52 Old Elvet building. Throughout the past 310 years, nestled under the watchful gaze of Durham Cathedral, many esteemed guests (including Her Majesty The Queen) have enjoyed the timeless elegance of 52 Old Elvet and revelled in its unparalleled history.
The Space: The discreet front door for The Egerton would have originally been a service entrance leading to a kitchen but the whole property has been transformed inside. Now it has a striking open plan kitchen, dining and living area. The space features a huge, traditional range, which is thought to be one of only six known ranges still in situ produced and manufactured in Durham. This is balanced perfectly with modern and stylish furnishings.
From the hallway, you’ll find two stylish bedrooms, an ensuite and a bathroom.
Guest Access: Guests have access to the full apartment. The keys to the property are accessed via a secure key safe and full details will be provided shortly before your arrival date.
There is free on-site parking.
The Egerton is located in the 52 Old Elvet building with 9 other apartments, perfect for group getaways or occasion stays. If you are looking to book more than one apartment, our team are on hand to support with availability and pricing.
The Neighborhood: Named as ‘One of the Best Cities to Visit' in recent years, Durham is a beautiful and charming area within the North East. Known as the ‘perfect little city’, Durham has the best mix of everything and it all blends seamlessly. It retains its medieval heritage but it also has a modern and vibrant twist. It boasts lush green landscapes but it also has busy cobbled streets with independent shops, bars and restaurants.
Durham has plenty of history within its walls. One of the most spectacular historic sites is Durham Cathedral. Constructed between 1903 and 1133, this towering building is a shining example of Norman architecture. The cathedral is now the oldest surviving building with a stone vaulted ceiling of such a large scale.
Getting Around: 52 Old Elvet is located in the city centre with cafes, restaurants, shops and bars right on the doorstep.
Durham train station is a 15-minute walk from the apartment so nearby towns and cities can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.
There are plenty of bus routes throughout Durham. Hop on the Arriva 6 route to visit Barnard Castle or the number 22 which travels through Seaham and Sunderland.
Interaction with Guests: We’re always available for our guests so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
