Thank You

I was quite disappointed to find out that as a hotel guest I had to pay an additional fee to use the hotel’s hot springs pool. This is in addition to the resort fee that a customer must pay.

We are sorry that you were disappointed in the charge for the Serenity Garden. This is a very popular area that often sells out, and we strive to provide great service. Complimentary access available when purchasing a qualifying spa service.

The only problem was you could not use the natural hot springs on Sat without a massage.

The Homestead is a beautiful resort tucked away in the Allegheny mountains. We were traveling back from the beach - taking a very scenic route. We wanted to stay in the Roanoke area, however all hotels within a 50 mile radius were booked due to the VA Tech/Notre Dame game which we did not know about. Travelocity only came up with the Omni Homestead. We had been driving for 8 hrs and we very tired so we booked the room. Not quite the place for just an overnight stay and certainly not the price. Hopefully one day we can return and enjoy the resort.

Pros: Like I said it is very grand looking from the entrance
Cons: The hotel really needs to work on keeping it up.
Location: Location is hard to get to be car and not much at all in town.
The hotel is very majestic looking when you approach but could use some TLC. The rooms smell musty and the balcony has mold growing. The experience was not bad it is just not what I expected.

No follow up

I wiped out on the Segway tour. I was lucky no broken bones or damage but very shaken. I was surprised the hotel did not follow up to check on me to ensure I didn't have hidden injuries. I have mixed feelings whether I would recommend this hotel to others. I had posted the incident to my FB and my friends were appalled that no concern was shown for my wellbeing.

Pros: The pool area was great and there a numerous amenities for children. It's a great family resort. The grounds are kept well and it's pretty overall.
Cons: The service could be MUCH better. Compared to The Greenbrier and other Omni resorts, they could step up the service quite a bit.
We ended up at The Homestead after our trip to The Greenbrier got cancelled due to the floods. We'd been wanting to go for awhile anyway, so it was a good excuse to make the trip. To me, this resort is a better family resort that The Greenbrier. We were on an adult only trip this time and between the two, I much prefer the Greenbrier to The Homestead. The facilities are nicer and the staff and service are MUCH better. That said, I would definitely bring my children back to The Homestead. The pool area is great, although service was lacking in a major way on the first day. The slides and lazy river is great for kids. It was a good time and overall it's a nice resort that I would return to again, but if you are looking for a nice couples getaway and trying to choose between it and The Greenbrier, I would pick the latter every time.

Old fashioned luxury, but overpriced

The hotel is lovely, in an old-fashioned, southern charm way, as are the rooms. The grounds, setting, and view are beautiful.  The pool area is wonderful, with the lazy river and slides incorporated into a luxurious setting for kids and adults. The spa area has a spectacular indoor pool and beautiful spa garden for adults with a warm springs pool. All of the restaurants have great atmosphere - with some variety in style - and good food. Wide variety of activities, and our family really enjoyed the ones that we did - archery, horseback trail ride, gorge hike, and falconry. (Where else would you do falconry!?) I was unsure about the resort wear dress code, but found that it kept folks from wearing sweats and swimsuits all over the hotel, which was kind of nice. Staff were friendly and pleasant throughout the facility.  I had to take off a star rating though because everything was overpriced. If you assume that the room rate is including the beautiful facility and setting, that's acceptable. But the hotel tacks on an additional "resort fee" which includes such standards as wi-fi and in room coffee. They include shuttles to activities in this fee, which should be folded into the activities fees, most of which are overpriced anyway - like double what they should be. The food is good, but not as fantastic as the prices would lead you to believe. Again, about twice as much as they should be for much of the menus. There aren't good options for a quick, cheap lunch - especially needed if you have the big buffet breakfast and want to splurge for dinner. The packages aren't a good deal unless you are committed to getting the most expensive options for every thing for every day. For instance, they price out at $30 a person for activities, when the choice of activities ranges from $12-$50. Same differences with food.  We had a wonderful vacation in a beautiful resort, and I would recommend the Homestead for families. But I'd suggest to understand, accept, and plan for the pricing before you go. (Also make reservations for activities and dinner at least week before your trip.)
