Excellent countryside stay

We really loved staying here. Rolando and his family were super welcoming and at the same time gave privacy in the apartment. We did a lot of cooking in the kitchen and loved being a bit away from the town but still close enough where it was a 30 min. walk or 5 min. drive. We had a rental car for this trip but noticed taxis were also available. The property is also within 20 min. of a National Park for good hiking. The apartment was super clean, comfortable, and had really good showers and a bath. We would absolutely recommend and want to visit again soon.

We could have stayed forever!

We rented the 3BR/3BA unit that is the entire upstairs level of Watzara Wasi. What an incredible and beautifully constructed place! The owner, Rolando, and his lovely wife and kids live downstairs. They allowed us complete privacy but were always available if we needed anything. We purposely chose to stay here, outside of the main area of Cotacachi, because we wanted to be in a more rural area with local people. Every day we heard the sounds of roosters, pigs, cows, and dogs instead of buses and trucks. Rolando's dogs and cat greeted us every day too! There are gorgeous views of Volcano Cotacachi from one side of the house and of Volcano Imbabura from the other. Everything was very beautiful and tranquilo, and we loved just hanging around the apartment because it felt so comfortable. As far as amenities go, the beds and couches are very comfortable and the showers have plenty of hot water and good water pressure. There is ample counter space in the kitchen. There is a washing machine downstairs that is shared with the family and a huge terrace to hang your clothes to dry. There are two fireplaces, which we didn't use, but which are beautiful nonetheless. Every day we walked about 30 minutes at a leisurely pace to go into town, where the shops, restaurants, and market are. $2 taxis were always available if we felt too lazy to walk back. Our stay was perfect!!
