A lot of money has obviously been spent on the hotel - to it's benefit, albeit it is somewhat quirky in places. Nevertheless, a very comfortable hotel, very handily placed for the centre of Colchester and surprisingly good value when you consider breakfast, wifi and parking are included.

The staff were very helpful from the moment I arrived. I needed to book an additional night and thought that might mean a different room for two nights as Expedia said they couldn’t do at their end. They were very accommodating and gave me a room upgrade which was lovely. They carried my luggage to my room. Breakfast was amazing. Servers were friendly. The front desk agent arranged transportation for me when I left. A very pleasant stay.

Best hotel in Essex

We stay at this hotel at least a couple of times a year and it never disappoints. Even the smallest rooms are a good size, the food and cocktails are excellent and the staff can't do enough for you. It's also very conveniently situated a two minute stroll to the high street.

This is a great hotel for a short stay in Colchester. A very good breakfast, large rooms, and the location is great if you want to explore Colchester (right by the castle and park).

Fab hotel in Colchester. Nearly perfect, but no USB ports in rooms which can easily be addressed. Restaurant is excellent and staff overall is very helpful. Lift available for the disabled.

I would have given a higher score but there were a couple issues on my two stays. First time, A/C in the room was very weak, we talked to the front desk but there was nothing they could do. The actual room was great, plenty of room. The second stay, four days later, they put in such a small room we had to ask to be moved, which they did, that room was not a lot bigger but at least the bed was not a.double like the first room. . The hotel has many different types and sizes of rooms, it would be nice to actually select te room number that you require. My only other comment is that their pricing structure does not seem to match room sizes. I like this hotel but I will have to iron out a few kinks before my next reservation. Maybe using their website for reservations might be a better option.

Luxurious bedroom

The room was extremely spacious, with an enormous, comfortable bed and luxurious bathroom. I would have liked a coffee but couldn't find instructions for the machine and a pack of biscuits would have gone down well. Breakfast was delicious.
