Life in the Left Lane - The complete Package

Pros: Pricy but a good value. Everyhwere you look it is beautiful. The staff is outstanding.
Cons: Marriott rooms as cleaner and something to aspire to.
Location: Very convienent to strolling Christinstad. Do not eat at Balters as it is a complete joke (they give you cold, dry burned popcorn instead of bread
The Buccaneer on St. Croix is a Top notch resort. No nickeland dimming like you get at a marriott or the rest. Complimentary breakfast buffet and beach toys with out a "Resort Fee". The food at the Terrace and the staff is the best on the Island (we tried Balters and had a good laugh it was so terrible and Savant was ok).

Wonderful return visit.

Pros: The beauty of the area is wonderful. Lovely views from our room, plenty of activities to choose from, and a very well maintained property.
Cons: The food was very good, but we would have like to have seen more local seafood on the menu.
Location: Three beaches to choose from, golf, tennis, nature and fitness trails. Rotating programs offered every day. Christainsted is nearby for shopping.
This was our third trip back to the resort. We were looking for a special place to celebrate our 50th anniversary and we couldn't have made a better choice. The resort has only improved over the years. The staff is exceptional from our pre-arrival reservation process to the good-byes at the end of our visit. This certainly is a resort that you want to return to again and again and we met other guests who expressed the same feelings. We had an amazing stay and look forward to returning in the future.

Wonderful hotel with top-notch service

Pros: Beautiful, uncrowded beaches Relatively small size for a resort with full amenities Superior, caring service from a dedicated staff
Cons: More casual dining choices for dinner
Location: Mostly everything you need is on premises--beaches, golf, tennis, spa, etc. Excursion to Buck Island is essential--boats come to the hotel dock
Everyone in our family had a great time at The Buccaneer--including our 9 and 19 year old children. We would eagerly return and recommend The Buccaneer without hesitation. The hotel is not quite a 5 Star facility; closer to a 4.5. There are 3 restaurants on site, but not all of them are open all of the time, especially in low season. The food is quite good. Service is world-class. Everyone who works for the resort takes pride in what they do and realizes that their goal is to please the guests. There were always sufficient beach chairs, shade, towels, floats, wait staff, etc. The beaches (3) are different and wonderful, each in their own way. Snorkeling right off the hotel beach is fair, but good enough to be enjoyable. The Concierge desk happily makes plans for any and all excursions, car rentals, dinner reservations, etc. This is a problem-free vacation in a glorious setting.

Best on St. Croix

The first thing you need to understand is "Luxury Hotel" in the Carribean is not the same as the states. At first blush, the off season rate for my room made me feel like everything should be perfect. The resort has some age on it but over the course of my vacation, it grew on me and now I have a real affinity for it and would love to go back. After traveling around the island and talking with the native islanders, this is the best resort on St. Croix. Everyone there, from the courtesy drivers, front desk, housekeeping, wait staff and concierge were genuinely delightful people. I have been to islands where the people were disinterested in you being there. That was not my experience throughout the entire island. We stayed in a ocean front room and that is where I would stay again. During our stay, The Buccaneer was completely gutting and remodeling one of the oceanfront buildings. I learned from a taxi driver that they do this every year. So they are in a constant update process. Their beaches are nice but not spectacular. Beach staff were really friendly and a lot a activities are free. The Mermaid restaurant was good beachside food. The morning breakfast buffet was very well stocked with fruit and all your morning basics plus at least one island special every morning. You can also order from the kitchen. We had dinner at the Terrace one evening and it was the most expensive meal we had on the island. The food was good as well as entertainment but I thought the meal was over-priced considering we ate a 2 lbs lobster in Christiansted for far less. Julie at the concierge desk, I thought, was super and was over and above as she found an island license plate for me to take home (something we do when we travel). The only real disappointment was the Grotto pool. It is old and had green algae growing in the grout. I don't think that is necessary even in a humid climate. Overall, the grounds were beautiful, the staff was super friendly and they are working at continually updating. I would go back in a heartbeat.
