I found the whole experience of checking in somewhat unpleasant. The instructions made it sound far more complicated than it actually was. The most troubling aspect of that part of it was the lack of disclosure about the building's quirks until right before check-in. It was not until too late to change the reservation that we were told it was the top floor of a walk-up (old building) and the stairs forced one of our party to make a different arrangement. The day before you check in you get a message saying "We expect people to be respectful of our home and adhere to its quirks. This house was built in 1892 and has plenty of flaws. If you are looking for a flawless stay and a more hotel like experience, then please cancel and book a hotel." Of course at this point it's too late to cancel and get a hotel. I'm used to the neighborhood so being on North Halstead doesn't bother me, but at 73 two flights of rickety winding stairs does. The freezer door handle was broken (not that we needed the freezer). One toilet backed up. The apartment itself was nicely furnished and the location was excellent for our needs, but the owners need to disclose the flaws up front so that we can better make informed decisions.
