Great spot

Great location. Lovely hotel. Easy parking that’s reasonably priced. I loved the breakfast. Room service menu needs improvement. I would recommend it and revisit.

A lovely hotel in the city centre, afternoon tea was amazing, staff are professional and hotel clean. Only issue we had was a wooden baton on top of the trouser press , it had 2 panel pin nails showing that I cut myself on.

Bar, restaurant and other facilities closed due to a function on that evening, received a phone call the day before my reservation informing me of this, however; wouldn’t give a refund because that is their policy. Reason I booked in the first place was to use these facilities, if I’d have known prior to booking, I would have chose a different location.

I had no idea what we were in for! I'm so sad we only had one night here, we will absolutely be back! Even though we were only there for a short amount of time we still walked the walls 1.5 times and they were able to get me in for a full body deep tissue massage that was one of the best i've ever had! We didn't have enough time to learn everything the city had to offer, so we will be back on our way to Wales.

Charged for items I did not consume

The hotel room was excellent and the location very good. The issue I had was on checking out. We were charged for drinks in La Brasserie from the night before. We didn't visit La Brasserie and dined out in a local restaurant before returning to the room. We explained this to the receptionist and the items were removed. On returning home I received an email from the hotel requesting payments for the drinks, as another room stated we agreed to split the charge? We travelled on our own. I had to ring the hotel to explain a second time that we dined out and I had the credit card details (time, date and venue) to prove this. It looks like this hotel is a place were anybody can put a false room number down to avoid paying, with no checks in place. First time I've encountered this with a hotel. I didn't think it would be from the Grosvenor in Chester.

I don’t expect to stay at a 5 star hotel in a junior suite and be expected to use the spa facilities which were average at best with one sauna not working

Sadly, this property is starting to look tired back stage – nice in the reception, brasserie etc, but the bedrooms could do with an upgrade. Heating in our system was so noisy we turned it off, but then woke up in the middle of the night with the room temp at 24C (even in December!) Staff were mixed. Some like the front doorman, or the waiter in the brasseries (a local lad from the Wirral) were warm and friendly. Many though were curt at best and didn't look overly enamoured with their job. Quite a few struggled with their English, which is not exactly helpful in the hospitality industry. We have stayed a few times over the years and it is a grand hotel, but it is starting to lose its lustre. We had a good time, (partly because we made sure we were going to), next time in Chester we will probably stay in another nice hotel. Food in the Brasserie was only average.
