The Chairman's Suite 927 is a designer studio for two on the ninth floor of Charlie & the Chairman, in the heart of the Cape Town Central Business District (CBD), two minutes on foot from Long Street and eight from Cape Town Station. Inside you get a queen-size bed in hotel linen, air conditioning, uncapped high-speed fibre, a Smart TV with Netflix, a full kitchen with a Nespresso machine, a laptop-size safe, and a table that works comfortably as a laptop desk. What sets it apart is everything outside the front door: a fully equipped gym, an indoor heated pool, a sauna, a steam room, a cold plunge and a spa pool, a co-working floor and bookable meeting rooms, a communal laundromat, daily housekeeping, and 24-hour security and concierge with facial recognition on both entry and exit at the security desk. All of it is included for guests, so a week here covers the hotel, the gym membership, the meeting room, the daily service and the dry cleaning in one line on the expense claim. The building also draws its electricity from the neighbouring hospital's grid, which means it is rarely affected by load shedding, with backup power in the common areas regardless. The Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) is five minutes away, the Victoria & Alfred (V&A) Waterfront ten, and the airport a little over twenty.


The Chairman's Suite is a self-contained studio apartment, thoughtfully designed rather than merely compact. Warm oak floors, soft neutrals, good task lighting and a wall-mounted television keep the floor clear, which is what makes an 18 square metre plan work as well as it does. It is a complete, private space for one or two people: you check yourself in, you come and go without a front desk, and nobody knocks.
Windows on the ninth floor bring in city views and plenty of light, with air conditioning and heating so the room is right whatever the season does.
Sleeping
One queen-size bed, dressed in crisp white hotel-grade linen, with a wardrobe for a full working week's clothing and space to leave a suitcase open. The apartment is high enough up the building to sit above most of the street noise, which matters on a CBD block that stays lively after dark.

Uncapped high-speed fibre throughout, strong enough for back-to-back video calls, plus a table and a proper dining chair that make a comfortable laptop setup for a working morning. There is a laptop-size safe in the room, so the machine, the passport and the company card stay locked away while you are out for the day.

For anything longer or more formal, the building is the office. There is a dedicated co-working floor with quiet desks and natural light, and meeting rooms you can book through reception when you need a door that closes and a room your client will be impressed by. Most guests work upstairs before a call and downstairs for the call itself.

An open-plan living and dining area with comfortable seating and a Smart TV loaded with Netflix. The kitchen is genuinely equipped rather than token: Nespresso machine, oven, hob, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster and a full set of crockery, glassware and utensils, so a quiet dinner in after a long day is an actual option instead of another restaurant bill. Housekeeping clears up behind you the next morning. The bathroom has a walk-in shower, hairdryer, fresh towels and starter toiletries.

You arrive to a Nespresso machine with pods, a selection of teas and rooibos, and the basics stocked so the first morning starts properly. There is a Woolworths and a Checkers within a few minutes' walk.
Housekeeping
Daily housekeeping is included in the rate. The bed is made, the bathroom serviced, the towels refreshed and the kitchen tidied every day of your stay, so you come back each evening to a room at hotel standard rather than to yesterday's coffee cups. Together with the laundromat downstairs, it is what makes a three-week project stay run as easily as a two-night one.

Charlie & the Chairman takes its electricity from the same grid as the neighbouring hospital, so the building is rarely affected when load shedding is scheduled elsewhere in the city, and the common areas carry backup power in any case. On a working trip that is the difference between a call that happens and a call that doesn't.

Secure parking can be arranged for your stay at an additional daily rate, so let us know when you book. Most guests never need it. Long Street and Bree Street are on foot, the MyCiTi station is 280 metres away with a direct airport link, and e-hailing in the CBD is quick and cheap at any hour.

For everything else, a communal laundromat that makes a two-week trip as easy as a two-night one, a staffed reception and lobby, and 24-hour security and concierge. Access is controlled by facial recognition at the security desk on both entry and exit, so the building knows precisely who is inside it at any moment, and a laptop-size safe in your room covers the rest. It is a genuinely secure address in a city where clients and travel managers ask that question first.

You are in the middle of the CBD, which for a working trip means almost nothing needs a car. Cape Town Station is an eight-minute walk, the MyCiTi station 280 metres, the CTICC five minutes by road and the V&A Waterfront ten. Long Street is two minutes away, and the Bree Street dining precinct, arguably the best concentration of restaurants and wine bars in the country, starts a few hundred metres from the door.

That same address does the after-hours work. VIXI Social House and Culture Wine Bar are both about 500 metres, either one a good answer to "shall we get a drink after this". The Labia, the city's beloved independent cinema, is 800 metres. There is indoor padel at The Racket + Ball Club a kilometre away for a proper hour off. Weekends open up quickly: the V&A Waterfront and the Two Oceans Aquarium, the Bo-Kaap's colour and cuisine four kilometres away, Table Mountain, the Sea Point Promenade, Camps Bay and Clifton, and the Winelands about forty-five minutes out. Plenty of guests extend a Thursday trip to a Sunday for exactly that reason.
