I reserved a two queen-bed room for two adults in the morning of the night I needed the room, and paid for it on Travelocity. After driving 399 miles, we arrived about 9:30 -10:00 in the evening. After a long scrutiny of his computer screen the clerk informed us he had no such room available. When questioned how this could be, he said that "corporate" had staged a surprise inspection and they had summarily closed 7 or 8 rooms, that very day. No, they could not have phoned us to warn us. He offered us the "King Suite." It's clear why the room was available. The door had obviously been broken through. There was a gaping hole where the bolt for the lock went into the door frame. No metal box or strike plate. When we turned off the lights, the door frame lit up from the the lights outside in the hall. The safety latch at the top of the door had been moved down several inches from the place where it obviously had been forcibly detached before. The condition of the room generally was fair, but dated, beat up, studded with white spackle patches. The little fridge had no ice box for our ice packs. The shower room door lock was sticky, so it didn't always lock or unlock. In an adjoining area was a black jetted tub. From all the chips I guess it was once white. Black made it easy to see the scum all over the inside. Icky. There was a skylight in this room, but no door, so no sleeping in. I expected a very different experience from La Quinta. They have fallen far!

The bed was so comfortable and the pillows were soft and comfy. The room smelled nice and the breakfast was good.

Front desk person was cheerful, polite. Even referred me to local diner. Room smelled stale so I opened window and went to dinner. Upon return, I noted smell of plumbing vent coming from bath. Sink took 10+ minutes to drain after brushing teeth for bed. Bed had no support remaining. Sank deep into old mattress. Shower head broken, and low flow rate. Tub appeared clean but was slippery with cleaning products-possibly due to limited water pressure to rinse. Ironing board cover dirty, and iron had material melted/burned to plate. I did report all to front desk in- person at checkout. Chose not to eat free breakfast as cleanliness appeared to be questionable. This is a very poor example for a La Quinta!
