The hotel was nicely presented, clean and the staff were very helpful. The room itself was a little shabby and in need of some updating. Some items were mismatched and the toiletries were terrible, but everything was clean and the beds were comfy. Dinner was nice and the service was quick. The lady in the lounge bar who brought our coffee was absolutely lovely - couldn't do enough for us. I wish I'd thought to get her name. I'd definitely stay again.

We recently stayed at the Palace Hotel in Buxton and, unfortunately, left feeling disappointed. While the building itself holds undeniable historic charm, it’s clear the property has seen better days and is in need of serious attention to bring it back to its former glory. The biggest letdown was the dining experience on our first night. We both ordered the pork belly, which arrived smothered in a beige-orange sauce that overwhelmed the entire dish—any other flavours were completely lost. The restaurant appeared understaffed, and our drinks didn’t arrive until we were nearly finished with our mains. To their credit, the staff did comp the drinks due to the delay, but the overall experience put us off dining there again. The dessert, a cheesecake, seemed to be cut from a tray and was cloyingly sweet, with little depth of flavour. The room itself was unremarkable. We’d booked a double but were given two singles pushed together, topped with a thin mattress cover that did little to disguise the gap or add comfort. The room and adjoining bathroom were dated, and the bathroom’s extraction fan was not strong enough to deal with moisture properly. All in all, the hotel has potential, but it’s clear that it's currently coasting on its once-grand reputation rather than delivering a genuinely comfortable and enjoyable experience. We'd recommend spending less and stay at the local Premier Inn which we've found to be a standardised comfortable stay that is good value.

While not desperately in need of a refurb the hotel could definitely do with an update/modernising. It currently has a very end of Empire feel to the place. Parking is chargeable. The pool and leisure facilities are chargeable. The bed was possibly the most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever attempted to sleep on. Positives? It was cheap and clean, so from that point of view it was exactly what I was after.

Poor quality.

Had to pay extra for parking, lift not working, went use pool but told would cost extra and would have to pay twice, once for today and again in the morning. The bed and pillow were very hard and the breakfast was over cooked and poor quality.

I booked this through a deal and initially was in a room in a side wing of the hotel which was quite noisy possibly due to the hum of extractor fans near the back of the hotel. This went on all night despite my having been told they would be turned off. The TV wasn't working so I archived y reception who tried to fix it and when this wasn't possible, they moved me to the room directly below. The next morning I discovered there was no hot water so I advised reception who kindly arranged for me to be moved to the main part of the hotel which had a lovely view from the front of the hotel. However there was no valve to turn the heated towel rail in the ensuite off so when I advised reception they arranged for me to be moved to a family room also in the main part of the hotel with a nice view. Overall I was very pleased with my stay as staff were helpful and responsive, the beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean and equipped with everything I needed. However if you are sensitive to noise at night it is worth asking if you are near the extractor fans as these don't seem to be turned off
