One older pontoon boat is included and reserved for Main Cottage guests.
The pontoon has a maximum capacity of eight people.
All operators must be at least 18 and complete the required Grant Island Rentals livery orientation before operating it.
The boat may be used for mainland transportation, fishing and recreational lake use.
After-dark boat operation is allowed only when required navigation lights are working and proper flotation devices are worn. Guests must bring a working flashlight and must remain visible to other potential nighttime boaters.
Fuel is included. Notify management when the fuel becomes low or the tank is empty, and we will refill the boat.
The included pontoon’s seat vinyl is weathered, faded and cracked in places. Paid upgraded pontoon options may be available.
CERTAIN AREAS REMAIN PRIVATE TO OTHERS:
Other accommodations, docks, hot tubs and marked operational areas may be private to other guests or management.
Please respect all posted signs and property boundaries.
The Neighborhood:
Grant Island is a privately owned island on public Brantingham Lake in the Adirondacks.
The Main Cottage offers a boat-in private-island vacation experience with a private-use waterfront section, pontoon boat, hot tub, dock, fire pit, swimming area and included non-motorized watercraft.
Brantingham Lake itself is a public lake. Other residents, property owners and recreational boaters may be on the water.
The lake is known for boating, fishing, swimming, birdwatching, stargazing and classic Adirondack lake life.
On the nearby mainland, guests will find two popular restaurants and bars, a local general store, hiking and seasonal recreation.
The surrounding Adirondack and Tug Hill region also offers state parks, horseback riding, wineries, hiking trails and other outdoor activities.
Because Grant Island is accessed by boat, bring the food, clothing, medication and personal supplies your group expects to need.
Getting Around:
You do not need to own a boat to stay at Grant Island Main Cottage.
MAINLAND ARRIVAL:
Two mainland parking spaces are included with the reservation.
We meet your group at the designated mainland parking area using the pontoon boat included with your stay.
We help load your belongings, operate the pontoon during the trip to Grant Island, and provide the boat orientation while traveling across the lake.
The boat trip generally takes approximately 5 minutes.
INCLUDED PONTOON:
After the orientation, approved operators may use the included pontoon for:
• Transportation between the mainland and Grant Island
• Recreational lake cruising
• Fishing
• Exploring Brantingham Lake
All operators must be at least 18 and complete the required livery orientation and documentation.
The pontoon has a maximum capacity of eight people, subject to loading and safety instructions.
After-dark boat operation is allowed only when required navigation lights are working and proper flotation devices are worn. Guests must bring a working flashlight and must remain visible to other potential nighttime boaters.
Fuel is included with your reservation. When the fuel level becomes low or the tank is empty, contact management and we will refill it.
If your group does not want to operate the included pontoon, management is also available to assist with transportation using another pontoon boat.
INCLUDED NON-MOTORIZED WATERCRAFT:
Reserved for Main Cottage guests:
• One canoe
• One pedal boat
• Two small kayaks
All watercraft use is subject to weather, maintenance, lake conditions and safety requirements.
PARKING:
All guest vehicles remain on the mainland. There are no guest vehicles on Grant Island.
A third or fourth vehicle or trailer requires advance approval and may carry an additional parking fee.
A trailer counts as one vehicle.
No more than four guest vehicles, including trailers, may be accommodated for a Main Cottage reservation.
Interaction with Guests:
We meet you at the mainland parking area using the pontoon boat included with your reservation.
We help load your group and belongings, operate the boat during the trip to Grant Island, and provide the required livery orientation while traveling across the lake.
The orientation includes:
• Pontoon controls and safe operation
• Passenger and capacity limits
• Docking procedures
• Operating boundaries
• Life jackets and safety equipment
• After-dark guidance
• Fuel-level monitoring
• How to notify us when the pontoon needs fuel
Once on the island, we show you:
• Main Cottage
• Bedroom layout
• Bathroom
• Full kitchen
• Private hot tub
• Private dock and waterfront
• Fire pit
• Included canoe, pedal boat and kayaks
• Pellet stove
• Seasonal Natural Lake Cold Plunge area, when available
• Pontoon docking and operating procedures
We answer your questions and make sure approved operators understand the pontoon before giving your group space to enjoy the cottage and its private-use section of the island.
Management is based elsewhere on Grant Island during the operating season and remains available through Vrbo messaging or phone.
When the included pontoon needs fuel, notify us and we will refill it.
If your group does not want to operate the included pontoon, we are also available to assist with transportation using one of our other pontoon boats.
Please report any safety, cleanliness, maintenance or operational concern as soon as it arises so we have an opportunity to inspect and address it during your reservation.
