Stayed at the Black Dog Inn in Bolton for two nights. The room itself was comfortable enough for the price, so no major complaints there. However, the overall experience was disappointing. The first night was a write-off in terms of sleep. Staff gave a late booking to a couple who had been drinking in the pub, and they stayed up most of the night with the TV on at a very high volume. There’s clearly little to no sound insulation, as it felt like the noise was coming from inside the room. Housekeeping was also lacking. Despite leaving a sign on the door requesting the room be cleaned, it wasn’t reset after the first night and towels weren’t changed. Small details were missed too, like no cups provided for the kettle and tea-making facilities. For the price, it’s not the worst place to stay, but the noise and lack of attention to basic service would put me off returning.

A good place to stay

The hotel is about a 15-minute drive from Bolton town centre in a quiet location next to a church. The rooms are next to the pub and restaurant, which can be accessed by an entrance out back. If you prefer to come and go without going through the pub, you are given a key to a side entrance. My room was clean and spacious and the bed large and comfy. The bathroom was modern and clean. The restaurant has a good menu. I didn’t have time for breakfast, but it looked and smelled very good! Parking is free in the pub/hotel car park just across the road. The location is perfect, away from the centre but only a short drive to all amenities. If you like walking then it's great for that. I would stay again, especially for the price.

Could have been so much better.

The Black dog offers affordable accommodation. An excellent restaurant, friendly bar service and comfy beds. Unfortunately the room wasnt cleaned properly with my bathroom bin full from the previous occupier, bottle tops in the corner and a loo that hadnt been clean with a broken seat. Its these little things that make a good score.

A gente amou se hospedar no Black Dog Inn. O quarto é muito confortável e limpo. A equipe é maravilhosa, conversamos bastante com as meninas. Resolvemos tomar café da manhã no restaurante, estava delicioso. Foi uma ótima experiência, muito acolhedor.
