Make sure you get the room you paid for!
The hotel tried to downgrade me! I was given a Standard room and had paid for a Collection room. I immediately went to reception to request the type of room I had paid for. Instead of simply correcting the "mistake", they made things worse by claiming what they gave me was a Collection room - it was not (and they were telling someone else who was trying to get a room that there were no more standard rooms to get them to pay more!). I eventually got the room I paid for and which I should have gotten from the start had they been honest. The Collection rooms are much nicer albeit still quite dated, with paint coming off come of the walls. The rooms was also freezing (I could not get the temperature above 16 degrees celsius so it was colder in the room than outside!). The hotel eventually provided a small space heater, which made it more bearable.
The check-in took a very long time despite there not being anyone before me and the person at the front desk tried to make me sign a paper without reading it - I read it and there were many mistakes that they begrudgingly corrected. I had also sent an email asking to organize transportation and never received a reply.
On the plus side, the location is great and the staff I had at check out seemed better. However, I had to extend my stay in the city and I gladly switched hotels because I didn't want to extend at GHL. I would not return.
