Room was very nice, clean and everything worked. View was bit odd, looking into tax office windows. Breakfast was very good. Wanted for nothing and all hot and fresh. Nice to see someone cooking the eggs in front of you. Bar area was lovely and nice to see security checking people in late at night.

We stayed for one night, having chosen the hotel for it's location near to the Utilita Arena. The room itself was clean but there were 2 plates of half eaten pizza outside our room on arrival which did not make a good first impression. We booked a room for 3 adults and the room was comfortable and spacious enough for 3. Unfortunately the hotel had only provided 2 sets of towels, robes, mugs, biscuits, teabags etc which was disappointing. The bar area was nice and the Bar/Reception staff were friendly and helpful (providing the third set of items after we requested them). We had a nice stay and probably would stay again if in the area.

“Family member about to die? Well tough, our policy is you can’t move your booking…” I planned a Christmas trip to Birmingham for my wife and I. Shopping, Christmas market, dinner and thought we’d make a night of it and stay over. Previously stayed in Malmaison, but for a change I thought we’d try IHG Crowne Plaza. Booked a top floor premium room. Very sadly, 2 days before our planned trip my wife’s grandad’s health suddenly deteriorated. The doctors gave him hours/days and started administering end of life care. He died 3 days later. Given the circumstances, we obviously could not go ahead with our planned trip. We contacted IHG Crowne Plaza (both directly and via Hotels.com – who were fantastic btw) the day before our reservation to explain the situation and ask if we could move our booking. To our surprise, IHG Crowne Plaza’s response was a flat, cold “no refunds per policy etc etc”… not even an acknowledgement of the sad circumstances. I understand that our original reservation was not a “flexible” reservation and so their response is in line with their “policy”. However, we were only asking to MOVE our reservation, not cancel it and claim a refund. Even more staggering is the total absence of any acknowledgement of the situation or given the circumstances, any element of discretion on “policy” from IHG Crowne Plaza. I’m disgusted with IHG Crowne Plaza’s cavalier approach to customer service and will NEVER book an IHG brand again.

Very helpful and friendly staff. Very good room for family with the two double beds. Recommend the chicken balti if eating at the bar. Close to centre so easy walk in and to Utilita Arena. Would recommend.

The aircondition operates at 50 dB, it is impossible to sleep with such noise levels in a room. The receptions was very helpful when we check-in, but I wont suggest to stay at 11th floor if you are looking for a good night sleep.

The hotel lacked a restaurant that vould cope with the number of guests. As farvas im aware foodcwas not available during the day and i was directed towards the ICC by reception. The que gor breakfast was unbelievable. The ac noise in the bedroom meant that you had to turn it off to sleep. It was intrusive.
