Altefähr is situated in the far south-east of the island of Rügen, right on the Strelasund. From the small harbour and the beach promenade, you can let your gaze wander over the water, across the rooftops and church spires of Stralsund’s historic old town. The modern seafront promenade and the wide sandy beach are perfect for a stroll and a leisurely break, and the gently sloping water at the beach is particularly appealing to families. Children can let off steam at the beach playground, and for the slightly older ones there are plenty of great activities on offer, such as beach volleyball courts, sailing and surfing schools, guaranteeing fun and games for all.



If you’re not keen on cooking, you can feast at the various restaurants or fish and chip shops along the promenade and enjoy yourself. Anglers will also find plenty to enjoy, whether on the shore or on boat trips.

As well as the lovely village of Altefähr, you should also explore the island. Hire bikes in the village and explore the many well-signposted cycle paths. The famous ‘Rügenrund’ cycle route takes you past the island’s impressive sights and promises you a wonderful time.
