"Great location for Cable Car Fans"
Solid hotel on quiet side street a couple blocks uphill from Union Square and just steps from the cable car stop. I took my boyfriend to San Francisco to visit family and this hotel is on a typical small street in San Francisco. Hotel room was clean and of adequate size for a city hotel. The breakfast was just coffee and pastry, but my boyfriend said that the coffee was good. It was quiet at night. I am used to the city, and I felt safe at all times on this block. There were several laundromats, restaurants, and a car rental drop off place nearby. Walk down several blocks to catch BART at Powell, or catch the cable car with NO LINE at Bush to ride to Fisherman's Wharf/Hyde Pier. Walk straight down Bush to get to Chinatown. I would recommend this hotel to adult couples looking to get out of their hotel and see the city.

"Cute Hotel, Interesting Location"
Hotel Bijou is a cute, small boutique hotel that suited our needs for our trip to San Francisco. The rooms were not large, but they were clean and bathroom was fine. The beds were not the most comfortable, but not terrible either. We were there for 3 nights and never able to connect to the WiFi for more than a second, which was frustrating, luckily we did not have much business to do on line at the time. The one thing I wish I have known, although it never became a huge problem, was that hotel is on the edge of the Tenderloin District. What that means is that the neighboring blocks, including the block that the hotel is on, is SWARMING with homeless, alcoholics and meth addicts. I am not exaggerating when I say that there could be as many as 30 of these people on any given block, which was a bit alarming and shocking. It was like NYC back in the very early 80's. We had no issues or real encounters with these people, but we did not spend much time in that area. It is a short one block walk to Union Square area and the cable car and bus. Right around the corner is MikkellerBar at 34 Mason St, which serves good food and many different varieties of craft beer. I think it just opened 4 months ago in a large warehouse type space. Also the BEST Vietnamese restaurant, Tin Vietnamese at 937 Howard Street, is just a few blocks away and should NOT be missed. We ate two meals there and thoroughly enjoyed every bite!

"Great boutique hotel"
Room was a good size for San Francisco, conveniently located, friendly staff. It is very old (early 1900's) and is complete with the original elevator. If you're looking for an up-to-date hotel, this probably isn't for you. I loved the complimentary glass of wine during happy hour at the Italian restaurant next door!

"Elevator was very noisy and getting a different room was not made easy."
Throughout the night we heard the loud elevator every time it was used, as our room was right next to the shaft. We asked about switching rooms due to the noise but we ended up staying in the room because we were only there for 2 nights but in order to get a different room we were told we would have to check out and check in again. We were also told that it wasn't guaranteed that the noise would be any better in a different room. Also, entire lobby was being renovated, which also was a little noisy and we were not notified of this at all prior to our stay. HOWEVER, the hotel is in a great location and the room itself was very charming. If they were not in the middle of renovations and we were to stay in a room far from the elevator, we would stay again.
