Tipple House / Luxury Ski-in Ski-out Home Featured in the Wall Street Journal
The home was specifically designed around a historical mining bunkhouse from the Gold Links Mine in Ohio City, Colorado. When the design/build team identified this centerpiece, it was dismantled piece by piece (down to the nails) and transported back to Crested Butte where it was re-built as the cornerstone of the home. The design philosophy of utilizing all historic materials is an underlying theme that begins with the old bunkhouse and seamlessly extends into the newer additions—blending the old world with the new in a truly artisan format.
Located on arguably one of the best pieces of land in the entire valley, the Tipple House commands the most powerful views of the rocky mountain landscape. With a plethora of glassed walls, generous windows and sweeping outdoor spaces the property brings you to the front row of nature. Nestled at over 10,000 feet, the home peers out to the massive West Elk mountains and the winding East River below. Set on the northern flanks of Mt. Crested Butte, world class skiing is literally out your front door.
Upon entering the home, the magnificent architecture instantly grabs you—no detail has been left without great thought and attention. The craftsman construction is palatable at every turn; something covered by several high-end architectural publications. Exquisitely furnished in the “rustic elegant” style, the carefully selected fixtures, colors and materials will instantly provide that warm and cozy “at home” feeling….careful, you may never want to leave.
With 6 generous bedrooms, sleeping 10 people in grand comfort, this is the perfect retreat for your high alpine luxury experience. The sleeping layout consists of the following:
The master suite (King Bed) 4 guest suites (one with a king and the others with queens) The bunk room (2 sets of built in barn wood bunks)
All bedrooms provide en-suite bathrooms hosting the most pampering creature comforts such as steam showers and cozy tubs. The bathrooms themselves offer materials and finishes that many have never seen…and none will forget. Jerusalem gold limestone, pillowed marble, honey onxy, soapstone, and Carrera marble have been used extensively in the most artisanal fashion imaginable.
The living room hosts a 50” HD LED TV with Direct TV & Blu-Ray. For a true cinematic experience, try the family room where a 60” HD LED TV awaits. Accompanying this massive screen is Direct TV & Blu-Ray. Your senses will be electrified with the Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound theatre. Send the kids over to their own media room with 80" Smart LED TV along with blue-ray and PS3. In addition, almost all bedrooms have fantastic flat panel TV`s to keep up with the world while in your secluded mountain retreat. To round out the in-house technology, wireless internet is available to check your email and surf the internet.
With a unique and creative layout the house provides open gathering spaces or if preferred small intimate rooms that ooze with coziness. If you seek a special retreat, try the “Tipple Tower,” a three-story glass observatory offering 360-degree views. To rounds things out, the custom built, wood burning fireplaces ignite that visceral sense being high up in the mountains.
When it’s time for your culinary adventures to begin, you will be hard pressed to find a kitchen elsewhere with such high standards. Combining the state of the art commercial functionality with a 3-star Michelin restaurant you’ll be equipped for catering a wedding, a soufflé for two or anything in between. Top of the line commercial appliances from Viking, Miele, Fisher & Paykel leave nothing to be desired in this world-class kitchen. Why bother with just a regular cup of coffee when you have your very own built-in espresso machine? Need to store that exquisite bottle of Opus One? Just use the under-counter wine cooler set to your desired storage or serving temperature.
To compliment the amenities inside the home, follow your instinct to spend time under the stars on the custom built patio where the outdoor hot tub awaits…the perfect place for all to enjoy after a long day on the hill. Looking for more action with friends and family, then relax on the patio with the fabulous outdoor cooking area including commercial gas grill. The privacy of the Tipple House is truly appreciated when soaking alfresco and looking out at your own masterpiece of the Rocky Mountains! Ample outdoor entertaining spaces includes patios, covered decks and custom fire pits (one wood burning and one gas fired) All of patios feature an in-ground snow melt system. After all, you’re on vacation, who wants to shovel?! In the summertime, the home site is completed with a sea of technicolor wildflower meadows.
Lastly, when it’s time to make some turns on the hill, take advantage of the optional custom, in-house ski rental and fitting service(for an additional fee) This will help ease the stress of travel and get you and your family the perfect set up before heading out the door and onto the slopes. And when you return, the ski room is your perfect staging area for the day’s adventure…complete with cubbies, ski storage, in-floor heat and a Wintersteiger 15-pair boot dryer.

Wonderful Ski-In/Ski-Out
We stayed at the Tipple House for an early spring break this year. It as was the perfect property for our family. A large custom home that is nicely furnished with full amenities. I could catch the Teocalli lift up at 9am and have the kids at the base in plenty of time for 9:30am ski school (I would recommend being able to ski an easy blue for this option with small children) It was easy to ski to the house each day for lunch or a quick stop to warm up. Pop your skies off right by the side door and put your boots on the custom dryer/heater. A great experience for us and I highly recommend.

Wonderful house and location, owner of property management company was frustrating
The location and house are amazing; not many like it in Colorado. Most of the interactions with the property management company were pleasant and friendly. However, the owner of the property management (PM) company unfortunately choose to dismiss our issues with the WiFi. There were equipment issues with the WiFi, some of which were eventually fixed - but we were not able to even send emails or texts the vast majority of our stay. The owner of the PM company claimed they responded and fixed the issue promptly giving us full working internet for the last two nights: I disagree and so did the trained technician sent to the home. The PM owner also claimed that the internet is only fast enough to send and receive emails. This was not made clear to me until after our stay. In fact at checkin, I was told we should be able to stream movies. Apparently, one should expect to be without most internet services during their stay - despite the Sonos system and AppleTVs in the house.
Nonetheless, it was an amazing week in Crested Butte!!
