I booked Oleo with the plan of relaxing at the hotel with my two teenage boys as a special graduation trip for my youngest after finishing high school. This was meant to be a stress-free celebration and a chance to enjoy the resort, the beach, and some quality time together without having to leave the property. I specifically chose this hotel because it was advertised as a boutique experience and that is why I did not mind paying the same price as some of the other nicer resorts in Cancun. Unfortunately, I quickly realized I had made a mistake. For the price I paid, I could have stayed somewhere far nicer with better service, amenities, and overall quality.
The towels were dingy and sometimes dirty, the shower tiles in our bathroom were filthy, and the entire property felt old, worn, and poorly maintained. The food was consistently cold, bland, and lacked variety, and the drinks were so watered down they were almost pointless. Staff interactions only added to the frustration. Some were unfriendly, others pushy, and surprisingly many did not speak English. This is unusual for Cancun resorts in my experience where most staff can communicate at least the basics.
One elevator was broken the entire trip, leaving just one that was painfully slow. The hot tub was never warm, the pool was cloudy, and nothing about the property felt clean or well cared for. The beach had constant seaweed, which can happen in Cancun, but most resorts I have stayed at clean it up daily, sometimes even
