Monterey Beaches

Whether you want to admire from afar, paddle at the edge or dive beneath the waves, the beaches here are simply spectacular.

With 99 miles of coastline, it's no surprise that Monterey County is world-renowned for its beaches and wide variety of coastal landscapes, from traditional sandy Californian beaches to rocky cliffs that plunge into the ocean. There are options for every traveler, no matter if you're looking to dive beneath the waves or stay dry on land.

Much of the water off of Monterey is a natural preserve, resulting in large populations of sea creatures and birds. Summer or winter, lay on the sand and look out to sea, watching birds swoop down and seals dive below the sea foam. The area's waves make it a destination for surfers, and offer an exciting swimming experience. Bring a local bottle of wine and make a day of it, taking in the diverse attractions of the beach and the ocean.
