Experience the thrills of whitewater paddling with an adrenaline-charged ride along the scenic Yarra River in Warrandyte. Choose this 3 hour adventure that gets you truly immersed in the Australian environment with local guides and native wildlife. While paddling between the 10 or so rapids on this 5-6km stretch of river you'll have time to take in the sight and scent of gum trees and spot wildlife too.
Firstly, meet your guide at Warrandyte for a brief training session. Put on the essential safety gear -helmets and buoyancy vests (PFD's), note different paddling techniques and safety information. Then it's a car shuttle and on return we take our boats 20m or so to the river bank. There's time to practice paddling your kayaks on flat water. Once you can steer the boat, you're ready to head downstream and tackle the rapids with your experienced guide. You'll hear the roar of rapids as you approach them which increases the excitement and you'll bounce through white water that will wake you up and make you smile. Of course you're prepared and expect to get a little wet!
While kayaking, spot native animals like wombats, wallabies, echidna or even a platypus-if you're lucky. See if you can spot wild ducks, parrots and waterbirds perched, diving or flying past. Maybe the wattle trees will be in full golden bloom too!
Your whitewater kayaking adventure concludes when you reach the township of Warrandyte and help return your gear.
Linger longer and plan a lunch or dinner in one of the nearby cafes, wineries or pubs in this quaint old gold mining town. Our friendly local guides always happy to recommend a few favourites!
