What you can expect

  • Begin your experience with a pickup from Seki Station or make your own way to the meeting point. Meet your host, a young, active swordsmith based in Seki, who narrates the process in English throughout, making it easy and engaging for international visitors.

    Stand just steps from the forge as tamahagane — the same steel used for samurai swords — is heated and hammered, and feel the sparks, heat, and ringing rhythm of the hammer up close. It's a powerful, immersive window into one of Japan's most revered traditional crafts.

    Watch the swordsmith heat and hammer the steel through the forging (tanren) and fire-forming (hizukuri) stages, up close. After the demonstration, return to Seki Station or continue your exploration of the area.
