What you can expect

Day 1:

  • This day we will depart from Puerto Maldonado airport and transfer to the city's river port, where we will board a boat that will take us to our lodge in the Tambopata jungle.
  • In the afternoon we will go out to visit the Cocococha Lagoon, explore its surroundings and see different species of avian fauna. We will see exotic birds and then we will go to an observation tower of 42 meters high from where we can see monkeys and toucans.
  • At the end of this activity we will return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 2:

  • This day we will start very early, we will go to visit the parrot clay lick of La Cachuela and then we will return to the lodge for breakfast. At 10:30 am we will hike around the lodge and take the opportunity to watch native birds.
  • After lunch we will continue looking for exotic birds on the banks of the Tambopata River. We will see silver herons, eagles and macaws, at night we will continue with the activity and see nocturnal species such as owls or hawks. Afterwards we will return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3:

  • On this day we will start with breakfast and head to another lodge located in Tambopata.
  • We will have the rest of the morning free to acclimatize or do some activity. In the afternoon we will hike for approximately two hours in the La Torre sector to observe the birds that inhabit this area.

Day 4:

  • This day we will wake up early to head by boat to El Chuncho, one of the largest colpas in Tambopata.
  • This trip will take approximately four hours and upon arrival we will camp to spend the day watching native birds until dinner time.

Day 5:

  • This day we will wake up at 5:00 to visit a macaw clay lick in El Chuncho. You will be amazed by the striking colors of these exotic birds.
  • Once we take pictures of the macaws we will return to the lodge for lunch and you will have the rest of the afternoon free.

Day 6:

  • This will be our last day, we will have breakfast and then head to the airport in Puerto Maldonado.
  • This will be the end of our journey in the jungle of Madre de Dios.
