The Giza Plateau is one of Egypt’s most famous archaeological sites and is home to the iconic Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx. Located on the western edge of Cairo, the plateau was developed as a royal necropolis during Egypt’s 4th Dynasty, around 2600–2500 BC. The main monuments include: * Great Pyramid of Khufu — the largest and oldest of the three pyramids and the only surviving Wonder of the Ancient World. * Pyramid of Khafre — recognizable by the remaining casing stones at its summit. * Pyramid of Menkaure — the smallest of the three main pyramids. * Great Sphinx — a monumental limestone statue with the body of a lion and the head traditionally associated with King Khafre. * Valley Temple of Khafre — an important ancient temple used as part of Khafre’s funerary complex. The plateau also offers panoramic views of the pyramids and surrounding desert landscape, making it one of the most important destinations for visitors to Cairo.
