What you can expect

Explore the magic and natural beauty of Madeira on foot with this challenging hike to the island's highest peak, Pico Ruivo. From this vantage point, you'll be treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the entire island.

Follow your expert guide along the famous levadas (irrigation channels) that trace the winding paths of Madeira's reservoirs. As you hike, admire the unspoiled landscape, passing through some of the island's oldest Madeira heather woods, and marvel at the striking volcanic rock formations reaching toward the sky.

The trail leads you to Pico Ruivo, standing at 6,106 feet (1,861 m) — the island's highest point, accessible only by foot. Its prime location offers unparalleled views stretching from coast to coast. Along the way, your guide will share the fascinating history and significance of the levadas, as well as the stories behind their construction.
