by Doctor Gumbo Tours Duration 3h Free cancellation available No booking or credit card fees
per traveler Price is $70

Chefs are the new rock stars and this tour is a delicious journey through New Orleans and Louisiana’s rich culinary history! Down here we’re passionate about eating, so along with your guide you will visit up to 6 locations: classic Creole restaurants, neighborhood sandwich shops, hot sauce bars, artisanal candy stores and more. Once inside you’ll sample different foods that represent the breadth and diversity of our culinary heritage: dishes like gumbo, Creole brisket, muffulettas, poboys, pralines and much more.

We cover New Orleans’ various restaurant family dynasties, we discuss recipes old and new, we visit restaurants that pre-date the American Civil War, we recommend places to eat and places to shop. And with so many dining options in New Orleans, why not try 6 different places in one fell swoop!

The 3-hour walking tour is conducted at a leisurely pace and with small groups. Most of the restaurant stops feature fully stocked bars if you’d like to enjoy a cold beverage (adult or otherwise!) during the tour.

Lindsay was an absolutely wonderful guide for this tour. She really knows her subject and a lot of other subjects as well. I highly recommend this tour. The food ranged from very creative at SoBou to very NO at Nola Poboys. The 6 stops were all very different and provided us with a lot of food by the time we were done.

Besides the gracious southern hospitality and well organized historical review, I found the food to be subpar. I thought the po boy sandwich Was filling, but the flank steak was served cold. The pralines are free in the store, And the same goes for the hot sauce. The gumbo was too small of a portion and should’ve been served first with dessert should I provided at the end. Not worth $70.
