Cruise out to the hilltop vantage points and unobstructed sky views at Murphy Dome to take in the wondrous colors and dancing lights of the aurora borealis. In a comfy van, wait for this spectacular display to kick off in the late hours of the night, sipping hot beverages to keep you warm while you wait.

Get picked up at your Fairbanks hotel and cruise out to Murphy Dome with your guide and Northern Lights expert. The site of a former Air Force base, Murphy Dome's hilltop location and lack of light pollution make it the perfect place to catch thrilling viewings of the aurora borealis' shimmering splendor. When you arrive, take a peek outside and then settle into your seat in the heated van.

Grab something hot to drink and find out what atmospheric conditions allow the Northern Lights to form. When the conditions are just right, hop outside to watch curtains of colorful lights wave across the sky. Snap long exposure photos to capture the mesmerizing experience, look for stars sprinkled behind each iridescent stretch of sky, and then head back to Fairbanks to get dropped off at your hotel early in the morning.

Our preferred viewing area is right on top of Murphy Dome Road and does not have a building nor restroom facilities. We are staying inside our van waiting for the Northern Lights.
