Iriomote Island: Mangrove Canoe Adventure & Yubujima Buffalo Cart Tour
Discover both sides of Iriomote Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Japan's last true wilderness, on a full-day tour combining mangrove paddling with a visit to the botanical paradise of Yubujima Island.
In the morning, choose a stable canoe or a Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) to explore winding emerald waterways. This sheltered mangrove river has very little wind, making it easy for beginners and families. Glide past massive stilt-like roots, then cool off with “waterfall play” under a jungle waterfall. Please wear clothes that can get wet.
In the afternoon, ride a traditional wooden cart pulled by a gentle water buffalo across the shallow strait to Yubujima, while your driver plays the sanshin (Okinawan lute). Wander through butterfly houses, admire rare palm trees, and enjoy the nostalgic atmosphere of old Okinawa.
Running from 9:00 to 16:00 and timed with ferry departures, this full-day plan is easy to enjoy as a day trip from Ishigaki Island, returning in time for dinner.
Our eco-friendly tours are designed with sustainability in mind to protect Iriomote's delicate ecosystem for future generations.
