Overview

Get a behind-the-scenes look at Palmer's downtown area. This tour offers the opportunity to connect with a local guide to hear stories from the area's past and present.

This trip is great for travelers who want a unique experience with locals, travelers interested in learning about the history of Palmer, and travelers who want a mellow, low-impact activity

During the 1930s the Palmer's roots as a farming community grew with the Matanuska Colony Project. Over 200 families relocated to the Palmer area under the New Deal. Many of Palmer's downtown buildings were constructed during the 1930s.

We'll take a walk back in time learning about what made the area so enticing for farmers, how the project unfolded, and the influence it left on our town.

During our time together we will walk about 1 mile on paved sidewalks through downtown Palmer's historic district. On the tour, we will visit 2-3 historic buildings.
