Our professional naturalistic guide will pick you up in Catania (where all the excursions start from) at your hotel or in a place we will agree around 8.30 a.m.
First stop: One of Etna Experience’s expert guides will drive you on board of one of our vehicles to Rifugio Sapienza. There the tour will continue taking the cable car up to 2500 meters and a special 4x4 vehicle to reach an altitude of about 2750 meters. So, together with a vulcanological guide, you will enjoy the magnificence of our volcano standing in front of the impressive Central and South-Eastern Craters, surrounded by ancient and recent lava flows.
Please keep in mind that we don’t reach the maximum top (Etna is 3343 mt) but the base of the top craters (2750 mt).
Second stop: Once back to Rifugio Sapienza we will head in the direction of Monte Nero degli Zappini, for a naturalistic walk with our guide, to discover the geological and botanical aspects of Etna.
Third Stop: You will stop nearby the mountain shelter Santa Barbara where you will enjoy a picnic made of authentic Sicilian bakery, water and Etna Wine.
Fourth stop: In the afternoon, you will visit a volcanic cave using the equipment provided (helmets and torches) to safely explore the depth of our volcano. Our expert guide will introduce you, with some basic information of speleology, to the fascinating phenomena often related to eruptions.
LANGUAGES:
The excursion will take place in Italian, English. According to the availability also in French.
RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT:
We remind you to wear closed and sturdy shoes (sports or trekking) with thick socks, and to bring a jacket because the temperature at a higher altitude may be lower (about 10 to 15 degrees lower than in Catania). If you believe you might not be well equipped, let us know when booking. In that case shoes and jackets will be provided we would just need the shoe sizes.
REQUIREMENTS:
We strongly advise not to attend the excursions to those who are not in good health, especially to people suffering from cardio respiratory diseases.
