Cotopaxi is an active volcano that has experienced several eruptions throughout recorded history. Its last significant eruption occurred in 2015/16. Cotopaxi has an almost perfect conical shape, making it a classic example of a stratovolcano. This park provides opportunities for visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the region and engage in outdoor activities.
Despite the harsh climatic conditions at high altitudes, Cotopaxi hosts a variety of unique ecosystems, including paramos and glaciers. Flora and fauna adapted to these extreme conditions make the region unique in terms of biodiversity.
