What you can expect

Paddle out to explore the Oregon wilderness with a voyage up the Chetco River that lets you see the region's lively creatures in their lush and wooded habitat. This excursion takes you to see animals ranging from seals to pelicans and kingfishers in some of the cleanest water along the coast.

Once you've picked up your kayak or sup and received a quick introduction to help you navigate the river with ease, slip into the water and set off through the calm setting of the Brookings harbor. Check out fishing boats, yachts, and Coast Guard vessels moored along the shore before you head upriver and leave the city behind.

Your trip takes you about 2.5 miles (4 km) into the enclosed river area, where you're immersed in the largely untouched watershed surrounded by sharp, low ridges covered by trees that crowd up against the shore. Along the way, your guides point out some favorite local creatures and scenic landmarks visible from the water, giving you a great look at local life before you paddle back to port.
