What you can expect

Strap on a pair of snowshoes and embark on a journey over the snow covered trails and frozen lakes in the Chena Lake Recreation Area. Bring your family and friends along on this leisurely tour through a winter wonderland for a chance to see snowshoe hares, foxes, or even moose.

Make your way to the tour office in North Pole to meet your guide and be fitted for snowshoes and hiking poles. Be sure to wear warm layered clothing as temperatures easily drop below freezing. The shoes make it easier to traverse the terrain as they prevent you from slipping on ice or sinking into the deep snow. After gearing up, set out on a short hike to Chena Lake Recreation Area to explore the frozen lakes and the multitude of snow covered trails.

The ice buffers much of nature’s sound, creating a quiet and isolated environment—a peaceful escape from the noise of an urban life. After a couple hours of exploring Chena Lake Recreation Area, return to the tour office for hot beverages and snacks.
