What you can expect

Visit 2 charming towns south of Mexico City and pay homage to the Passion of the Christ during Holy Week. Trace a scenic route through the Sierra Madre Mountains to unlock the history of Cuernavaca and Taxco, and then observe a recreation of the Stations of the Cross in Taxco.

Leave the hustle and bustle of Mexico City in your rearview mirror as you head south through Mexico's Sierra Madre Mountains toward Taxco, famous for its history of silver mining. During your drive, stop in Cuernavaca, lovingly nicknamed the City of the Eternal Spring. A resort destination, Cuernavaca is lauded for a series of natural aquifers as well as its unique native vegetation.

Take lunch at a vibrant cafe in Cuernavaca, and then continue your 112-mile (180-km) journey south toward Taxco. After setting foot in the city, visit a silver workshop and soak up information about the region's lineage of silver mining. Admire the jewelry on display and purchase a memento to carry home with you. Then, see the Santa Prisca Church. A rose-colored Baroque edifice, this sacred site is a stunning example of the complex interplay of Spanish and Mexican culture in the region.

Hear the intriguing Legend of Santa Prisca, and then prepare for the celebrated reenactment of the Stations of the Cross. Dating back to the 16th century, this simulation of the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is a moving testament to Taxco's Catholic past and present.
