What you can expect

Leave the bright lights and bars of Bourbon Street behind on a bike tour through the Big Easy's less-touristed neighborhoods, pedaling past elegant antebellum mansions and through musically significant parks with an expert local guide.

Meet up with your guide in the French Quarter and get situated on a comfortable bike, strapping on a helmet and then pedaling down narrow streets, past Creole cottages and Spanish colonial architecture as you cruise out of the bar zone and into the New Orleans where the locals live and play. Head into the Treme and listen to your guide share facts about the district's impact on the birth of jazz and its cultural importance as the first US neighborhood established by free people of color.

Hop off your bike and walk among the mausoleums and elaborate tombstones of the above-ground graveyard at Saint Louis Cemetery No. 3, learning about New Orleans' unique funeral traditions. From there, cross into Louis Armstrong Park to admire its greenery and fountains as you hear stories about the NOLA-born musician whose name the park bears. In Congo Square, you just might catch a traditional drum circle or a live concert beneath the trees.

Cruise through the vibrant and dynamic Faubourg Marigny, scoping out the colorful homes and the lively jazz bars of Frenchmen Street, and then make your way up Esplanade Ave., known as the Creole Millionaire's Row. Stretching from the Mississippi north to the oak-filled lawns of City Park, this boulevard is lined with romantic mansions that hearken back to a different era in the city's past.
