Know before you book

  • We provide rubber boats, ponchos and personal flotation devices for each guest.
  • All ages welcomes from infant to 100 years.
  • Placer River is a Class I to II, mellow braided river, no big rapids. Most guests will not get splashed with water. If you are concerned about getting splashed you can request a spot in the raft that is NOT “splashy” when speaking to your guide.
  • We do have a large number of guests join us on this trip during our peak season. If you want a more private experience we recommend joining us for one of our morning tours which tend to have smaller group sizes.

What you can expect

The tour starts from Girdwood ( 1 Hour South of Anchorage). Take a brief van shuttle from Girdwood to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center for a guided & interpretive tour of the animals. The center is Alaska’s premier rehabilitation facility for injured and orphaned wildlife. Bears – AWCC Tour runs 1.5 hours and includes walking and driving options to view the animals. A catered bento box lunch is provided with this tour.

Once done with the AWCC, our guide will transport you back to board the Glacier Discovery Train where you will continue onto your next adventure at Spencer Glacier—Spencer Glacier Float Tour—Get up close and personal to the ICEBERGS on this mellow float perfect for all ages. Our experienced and professional guides will row you right up to beautiful picturesque icebergs offering stunning panoramic views of the Spencer Glacier and surrounding mountains. Return via the Glacier Discovery TRAIN to Portage Station. Guests will take a Chugach Adventures shuttle back to Girdwood.

Tour Itinerary:
10:40 AM Meet at the Girdwood Train Depot in Girdwood
1115 AM - 1:00 PM Visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, we provide a sack lunch
1:15 PM Board the Glacier Discovery train at Portage Depot
1:55 PM Get off of the Glacier Discovery train at Spencer Whistle Stop and begin rafting tour
2-4:45 PM Spencer Glacier Float Rafting Tour, Approximately 2 Hours on the Water.
5:05 PM Get back on the Glacier Discovery train and head back to Portage Depot
5:15 PM Arrive at Portage Depot and take a van back to Girdwood
5:45 PM Arrive at Girdwood Train Depot
