What you can expect

  • Learn the ancient art of Lecce stone, the material that symbolizes Lecce's Baroque style and is one of the most authentic expressions of Salento's artisan tradition. For centuries, this limestone has been used to create decorations, sculptures, and architectural details that make the city unique.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll have the opportunity to work with Lecce stone with your own hands, guided by a local master craftsman who will lead you through the traditional processing techniques handed down over time.

The experience takes place in the heart of Lecce's historic old town, just a short walk from the Basilica di Santa Croce, one of the most important examples of Lecce Baroque. After a short introduction to the history and characteristics of the stone, you will move on to practice using the craftsman's tools to shape your creation.

Whether you're a beginner or a craft enthusiast, this workshop will provide you with an authentic and engaging experience, connecting you with a tradition that is part of the cultural identity of the region.

At the end of the activity, you will take home an artifact you made yourself and a special souvenir of your experience in Lecce.
