What you can expect
Your journey begins with a scenic drive up the winding mountain roads toward Santikhiri Village (Doi Mae Salong), a charming Yunnanese-style community surrounded by beautiful highland scenery.
After arriving at the village, you will first explore the Chinese Martyrs Memorial Museum, where you’ll learn about the history of the Kuomintang settlers who founded this unique mountain community. The museum offers meaningful insights into the area’s cultural roots and heritage.
We continue with a visit to the Mae Salong Morning Market, a lively local market where you can taste traditional Yunnanese snacks, shop for premium tea, dried fruits, and handmade hill-tribe products. This is also a great place to experience the everyday life of the local people.
Next, you will enjoy scenic viewpoints around Doi Mae Salong, perfect for relaxing, taking photos, and soaking in the fresh mountain air before we start our return journey.
Your trip then continues to 101 Tea Plantation, one of the most famous tea farms in Doi Mae Salong. Here, you can stroll through the beautifully terraced tea fields, learn about local tea cultivation, and enjoy the fresh aroma of high-quality oolong tea. This spot is perfect for scenic photos and relaxing in the peaceful atmosphere of the highlands.
Doi Mae Salong offers a smooth and memorable travel route filled with culture, history, local flavors, and breathtaking views—perfect for travelers looking to explore the beauty of Chiang Rai’s highlands.
Continue to the Mae Sai Skywalk, Thailand’s northernmost point, where a glass walkway offers sweeping panoramic views across the Thai–Myanmar border. Enjoy beautiful photo opportunities and experience the lively atmosphere of this bustling border town.
After exploring the skywalk, you will visit the Mae Sai Border Market, a vibrant marketplace known for its wide selection of local products, souvenirs, handicrafts, dried snacks, and imported goods from Myanmar. It’s a great place to stroll around, shop, and experience the unique blend of Thai–Myanmar culture.
Your journey then leads to the legendary Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet along the Mekong River. Visit a scenic viewpoint overlooking the three countries and learn about the historical significance of this once-notorious region, once known for its opium trade. Today, the area is peaceful, scenic, and rich in cultural heritage.
You may also enjoy an optional boat trip on the Mekong River, which offers a closer look at the landscapes and local life along the borders of Thailand and Laos, and an optional Opium Museum, one of the most comprehensive and informative museums in the region. The museum presents the history of opium cultivation, the impact of the opium trade, and the transformation of the Golden Triangle through immersive exhibits and interactive displays. It offers a deep and meaningful understanding of the area’s past.
