Head off the beaten path to explore the scenic Olmec ruins of Cantona. Visit the small town of Oriental, named after the train that used to connect Mexico City and the coast town of Veracruz.
We start our tour in Oriental town to visit Railway center founded in 1982 as part of the Oriental Railway.
Then, visit to the archeological site of Cantona that means (Sun´s home). Its first inhabitants arrived in 900 BC, and it´s population went up to 90,000 in 900 AC.
This is the archeological site with more pre-Hispanic ball game courts in Mexico. Cantona was a fortified city founded close to a commercial route between the Gulf of Mexico and the central region. They created a complete road communication system. Even though it was an isolated it became an important community from 600 to 1000 A.C.
