Meander through monolithic rock formations in the Devrent Valley, explore underground cities carved from stone in Kaymakli, and snap photos of the Ihlara Valley's rugged canyons. Dive into Cappadocia's breathtaking landscapes and archaeological treasures on this 3-day adventure.
Day 1
After taking an overnight bus from Istanbul, arrive in Cappadocia in the morning, rested and ready to begin exploring the Devrent Valley's “fairy chimneys.” Spend the morning wandering past these unique rock stacks and learn about the geological forces that helped create them. Make your own clay creation using ancient pottery techniques in Avanos, find out just how literal the name Pigeon Valley is, and take in sweeping views of the valley from Uçhisar before retiring to your hotel for dinner and a good night's rest.
Day 2
Fill up with a hearty breakfast before you take the day to explore the dwellings and cities carved out of cliffs and rocks around Kaymakli and Çatalkaya. Learn about the persecution of Christians that led to the creation of these protected places, and snap postcard-worthy photos from a lofty vantage point in Esentepe.
Day 3
Pack your bags and grab something to eat to fuel up for a day in Ihlara Valley's rugged canyon landscapes. Check out the tumbling rapids of the Melendiz Stream and keep your eyes trained on the pockmarked canyon walls for glimpses of more centuries-old carved-out dwellings. As evening draws near, head back to the bus terminal to catch your overnight bus back to Istanbul, returning to the city in the morning.
