Disappointing Stay – Space not checked before arrival; water leak, Missing Basics
We arrived at the property late Friday evening, only to find standing water throughout the entry, kitchen, living room, and hallway to the bedrooms. The living room rug was soaked, the hallway was wet and covered in debris, and the space was essentially unusable upon arrival. The source turned out to be a leaking washing machine.The host sent a housekeeper within 30 minutes, but she came with only a mop—no towels or fans—so the floors remained damp for hours. We couldn’t unpack or settle in comfortably. Maintenance was scheduled for the following day, but it didn’t help with the disruption to our first night.On top of that, the unit was missing many basic amenities: no spare linens, towels, washcloths, or hand towels. No hooks, coat racks, or shelves. Only two dish towels in the kitchen and very limited cookware. There was no vacuum or broom. The Keurig machine had no K-Cups. The bedrooms had no carpeting as advertised—despite a listing claim of “plush carpet for added comfort.” The whole space felt unfinished and impersonal, like it had recently been gutted or was never fully furnished. When I reached out to request a partial refund for the first night, I was told the situation wasn’t their fault and that refunds were not possible. The only alternative offered was to cancel the entire reservation that night, which was not realistic after a long day of travel. The owner repeated the same response, without apology or concern. Very unfair.
