"Location, location, location! (Nice staff too!)"
I picked this hotel for location and it did not disappoint. Centrally located on Union Square, close to cable cars, shopping and attractions. Hotel staff was incredibly nice and accommodating. Our room on the 7th floor facing the courtyard was quiet and surprisingly large for a boutique hotel in San Francisco. We would definitely stay again!

"Lovely Night"
We arrived early and were pleasantly surprised to be able to check into our room, which was very comfortable. But what really made an impression was the waitress at dinner that night. I had joked with her about not having an appetizer so that I could have a dessert. However, at the end of the entrée, we realized I needed to return to the room with my son to give him some medication. My husband stayed behind to pay the bill. When the waitress saw we were gone, she gave my husband a huge chocolate chip cookie to bring back to the room so that we could have dessert after all. That is the sort of kindness that customers don't forget. Thank you, Fairmont.

Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa

801 Bridgeway, Sausalito - Map

"excellent as always"
Casa Madrona is for us the only place to stay in north SFO - the staff are like family and it is a wonderful location and Poggio's below is a treat to be experienced both very early morning for latte, sitting in the delightful air there at the tables outside on the flower bordered sidewalk area & watching locals coming in and out chatting to the characters of staff attending in what seems to be a warm morning ritual, and then in the evening, when it seems diners from all over the world come to experience authentic Italian meals and add their various accents of conversations to the atmosphere - it all seems like a true 'get-away'. The rooms at CM are very clean and decorated in a tasteful and unfussy manner. Not opulent but understated 'trendy' and comfy. The staff, as always, are super kind and helpful. Rooms facing the street and with balconies have views of the harbor (which is across the street) and I think worth the price to upgrade to, if you are able to/available.

We really enjoyed our stay. Walking distance to many tourist attractions. Hosted wine tasting in the evening. Coffee and tea in the morning. The staff greets you each time you come in or leave. Parking can be a little expensive, but that's just a fact of life when visiting SF.

Hotel Triton

342 Grant Ave, San Francisco - Map

"Decent place, good location."
The Triton is a quirky boutique hotel just at the Chinatown gate and an easy stroll to Union Square. The lobby is artsy with a fireplace, several seating areas, a large screen TV, and interesting view of foot traffic heading in and out of Chinatown. It boasts a complimentary wine happy hour which was a welcome bonus, though I don't think unique for hotels around here. The staff was courteous and helpful. The rooms (at least mine) was small, and I believe that every room has a different decor. Mine had a kitschy bed and wallpaper that was (I think) a Kerouac novel. There was a small bathroom with a shower and a mini bar. I had stayed at the Triton years ago and didn't hesitate to return rather than pay the outrageous price required at my conference hotel a few blocks away. The walk was not onerous and there are many excellent eateries in the area. Complimentary coffee in the morning was a plus. Internet was free if you signed up for the loyalty program. It wasn't all that quiet being at the edge of Chinatown but hey, it's San Francisco.
