"I was surprised to learn during our stay that this hotel was THE place to stay in back when traveling by train was the norm, with it sitting right next to Ottawa's main railway station. The informative signs detailing the many famous figures and dignitaries that have visited the chateau over the years was very intriguing to me. I could certainly see why it has earned such a reputation as the room itself was spacious, well-decorated, and comfortable. Furthermore, the money spent on having a view over Parliament Hill was well worth it, as it made for excellent sights both day and night when we were relaxing there. Although we lamented the lack of a microwave it was hard to find fault with the grandeur of the room itself.
I would say that the main things that offset our wonder during this stay were the lack of on-site parking (I don't like trusting my vehicle to a valet, but that's just me), the hecticness of traffic in the surrounding area (which is admittedly a given in a capital city), and the lack of adequate staff members in some areas of the hotel. The latter was mainly seen by us during breakfast, where there were too few people available to serve the sheer volume of guests, some of whom were rather demanding as a result. My wife and I felt rather sorry for the staff who were clearly trying their best, so my hope is that others have brought this up and that it will eventually be addressed."
